The Ohio Express
The Ohio Express is an American bubblegum pop band formed in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1967. Though marketed as a band, it would be more accurate to say that the name "Ohio Express" served as a brand name used by Jerry Kasenetz's and Jeffry Katz's Super K Productions to release the music of a number of different musicians and acts. The best known songs of Ohio Express (including their best-scoring single, "Yummy Yummy Yummy") were actually the work of an assemblage of studio musicians working in New York, including singer/songwriter Joey Levine. Other recorded "Ohio Express" work included material recorded by an early group of Joe Walsh, as well as a later single written and sung by Graham Gouldman (which was performed by the four musicians who would later be known as 10cc). A band previously known as Sir Timothy and the Royals was renamed "The Ohio Express" and hired to promote the singles by appearing at all live performances. The Music Explosion was an American garage rock band from Mansfield, Ohio, discovered and signed by record producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeffry Katz. The quintet is best known for their number two hit record, hit, "Little Bit O' Soul". The single was given music recording sales certification, gold record status by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA. Written by British songwriters John Carter (English musician), John Carter and Ken Lewis (songwriter), Ken Lewis, who had previously written big hits for The Ivy League (band), The Ivy League and Herman's Hermits, the song was originally recorded in 1964 by UK beat group The Little Darlings. "Chewy Chewy" is a song by American band Ohio Express. Released in September 1968, it was written and produced by Joey Levine and Artie Resnick. Background and composition The 2-minute-38-second song is in the key of C major, changing later in the song to C sharp / D flat major, with a tempo of 121 beats per minute. The song makes countless references to candy and sugar, and the narrator compares these two sweet treats to the object of his affection, at some point calling her a "living box of candy wrapped up so very fine" with a "mouthful of such sweet things to say". Most of the song's remaining lyrics are nonsense. It is among Ohio Express' three signature songs, as well as one of bubblegum music's most notable staples. The instrumental pause at the song's midway point is very evocative of the opening notes of 'Then He Kissed Me' by The Crystals. Neil E. Bogart (born Neil Scott Bogatz, February 3, 1943 – May 8, 1982) was an American record executive. He was the founder of Casablanca Records, which later became Casablanca Record and Filmworks. Life and career Born Neil Scott Bogatz in the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital, central Brooklyn, New York City, the son of Ruth (Markoff) and Al M. Bogatz. His family was Jewish. The James Gang
James Gang was an American rock band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1966. The band went through a variety of line-up changes until they recorded their first album as a power trio consisting of Joe Walsh (guitars, lead vocals), Tom Kriss (bass) and Jim Fox (drums). Dale Peters replaced Kriss on bass for the band's second and third albums. Two of the band's songs, " Funk #49" and " Walk Away", continue to be popular on classic rock and AOR stations. In late 1971, Walsh left to pursue a solo career and would later join the Eagles. The band carried on with a number of other guitarists and lead singers to replace Walsh.
