The Knack
The Knack was an American power pop band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1978 by Doug Fieger (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Berton Averre (lead guitar, backing vocals), Prescott Niles (bass) and Bruce Gary (drums). Spearheaded by the success of their debut single "My Sharona", their first album, ''Get the Knack'' (1979), reached number-one in several countries. However, their next two albums, ''...But The Little Girls Understand'' (1980) and ''Round Trip (The Knack album), Round Trip'' (1981), were less successful, leading the band to disband in 1982. The band reunited in 1986, and released their fourth album, ''Serious Fun (The Knack album), Serious Fun'', in 1991, before breaking up again the following year. After a brief reunion in 1994, the Knack reunited a final time in 1996, recording two more albums, ''Zoom (The Knack album), Zoom'' (1998) and ''Normal as the Next Guy'' (2001). Power Pop
Power pop (also typeset as powerpop) is a subgenre of rock music and form of pop rock based on the early music of bands such as the Who, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Byrds. It typically incorporates melodic hooks, vocal harmonies, an energetic performance, and cheerful-sounding music underpinned by a sense of yearning, longing, despair, or self-empowerment. The sound is primarily rooted in pop and rock traditions of the early-to-mid 1960s, although some artists have occasionally drawn from later styles such as punk, new wave, glam rock, pub rock, college rock, and neo-psychedelia. Jack Kevorkian
Murad Jacob Kevorkian (May 26, 1928 – June 3, 2011) was an American pathologist and euthanasia proponent. He publicly championed a terminal patient's right to die by physician-assisted suicide, embodied in his quote, "Dying is not a crime". Kevorkian said that he assisted at least 130 patients to that end. He was convicted of murder in 1999 and was often portrayed in the media with the name of "Dr. Death". In 1998, Kevorkian was arrested and tried for his role in the voluntary euthanasia of a man named Thomas Youk who had Lou Gehrig's disease, or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS. He was convicted of First degree murder in the United States, second-degree murder and served eight years of a 10-to-25-year prison sentence. Geoffrey Fieger
Geoffrey Fieger is an American attorney based in Southfield, Michigan. Fieger is the founder of the law firm Fieger Law, and is an occasional legal commentator for NBC and MSNBC. His practice focuses on personal injury, civil rights litigation and medical malpractice cases. Fieger served as the defense attorney for Jack Kevorkian and was an unsuccessful Democratic nominee for governor of Michigan in 1998. On March 1, 2024, Fieger's wife released a statement saying he was diagnosed with a heart condition that required surgery, and afterward he suffered a stroke. His long time law partner James Harrington is currently running Fieger Law, while Fieger is recovering and in rehabilitation. ''Normal as the Next Guy'' is the sixth and final studio album by American rock band the Knack, released on September 25th, 2001. It marks the fourth comeback attempt by the band after its second album, '' ...But the Little Girls Understand'', failed to achieve the success of the band's début album. AllMusic critic Mark Deming noted that the album finds songwriter and lead singer Doug Fieger having resolved his issues with women, but has not "found a subject that appears to compel him nearly as much as the treacheries of girls once did." ''Round Trip'' is the third studio album by power pop/ new wave band the Knack, released by Capitol Records in 1981. It received generally unfavorable critical reviews, and peaked at No. 93 in the Billboard 200. It contained the single " Pay the Devil (Ooo, Baby, Ooo)" (which hit No. 67 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100). "Boys Go Crazy" was issued as the single from the album in Australia. It was also issued as a follow-up single to "Pay the Devil" in the U.S. and was expected to be "chart bound" on the Hot 100, but it did not chart.
