Since 1947, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has classified all typhoons in the Tropical cyclone basins#Northwestern Pacific Ocean, Northwestern Pacific Ocean with wind speeds of at least —the equivalent of a strong Category 4 on the Saffir–Simpson scale, as ''super typhoons''. Since that year, 316 super typhoons have occurred in the basin, the latest being Typhoon Man-yi (2024), Typhoon Man-yi in 2024 Pacific typhoon season, 2024. Only two List of Pacific typhoon seasons, Pacific typhoon seasons have not included at least one super typhoon, which were the 1949 Pacific typhoon season, 1949 and the 1974 Pacific typhoon season, 1974 seasons. 2013 Pacific Typhoon Season
The 2013 Pacific typhoon season was a devastating and catastrophic season that was the most active since 2004, and the deadliest since 1991. 2023 Pacific Typhoon Season
The 2023 Pacific typhoon season was the fourth and final consecutive below-average season and became the third-most inactive typhoon season on record in terms of named storms, with just 17 named storms developing, only ahead of 2010 Pacific typhoon season, 2010 and 1998 Pacific typhoon season, 1998, however it had a slightly above average in terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy, ACE. Typhoon Doksuri, known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Egay, was a powerful and highly destructive tropical cyclone which became the costliest typhoon to hit China, the costliest tropical cyclone outside of the Atlantic hurricane, North Atlantic, and the costliest typhoon on record, breaking the previous record of Typhoon Mireille in 1991.
