Rescue Group
An animal rescue group or animal rescue organization is a group dedicated to pet adoption. These groups take unwanted, abandoned, abused, or feral, stray pets and attempt to find suitable homes for them. Pet adoption is the process of transferring responsibility for a pet that was previously owned by another party such as a person, shelter, or rescue organization. Common sources for adoptable pets are animal shelters and rescue groups. Some organizations give adopters ownership of the pet, while others use a guardianship model wherein the organization retains some control over the animal's future use or care. Online pet adoption sites have databases of pets being housed by thousands of animal shelters and rescue groups, and are searchable by the public. People deal with their unwanted pets in many ways. No-kill Shelter
A no-kill shelter is an animal shelter that does not kill healthy or treatable animals even when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia for terminally ill animals or those considered dangerous to public safety. A no-kill shelter uses many strategies to promote shelter animals; to expanding its resources using volunteers, housing and medical protocols; and to work actively to lower the number of homeless animals entering the shelter system. Up to ten percent of animals could be killed in a no-kill shelter and still be considered a no-kill shelter. Definition A no-kill or limited admit shelter is a shelter that saves healthy, treatable and rehabilitatable animals. Foster Care
Foster care is a system in which a minor has been placed into a ward, group home ( residential child care community, treatment center, etc.), or private home of a state-certified caregiver, referred to as a "foster parent" or with a family member approved by the state. The placement of the child is normally arranged through the government or a social service agency. The institution, group home, or foster parent is compensated for expenses unless with a family member. In some states, relative or "Kinship" caregivers of children who are wards of the state are provided with a financial stipend. The state, via the family court and child protective services agency, stand '' in loco parentis'' to the minor, making all legal decisions while the foster parent is responsible for the day-to-day care of the minor. Old Dog Haven
OldDog Haven is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization whose goal it is to improve the quality of life of geriatric or "senior" dogs that need care and homes, mainly in the western part of Washington state. The group was formed in 1994 by shelter volunteers who saw senior dogs overlooked by adopters. OldDog Haven uses a network of people to provide loving and safe homes for abandoned senior dogs. A Home Base where the founders live and care for a number of dogs is located in Arlington, Washington. OldDog Haven does not have a shelter. A feral () animal or plant is one that lives in the wild but is descended from domesticated individuals.
