Plus–minus Method
The plus–minus method, also known as CRM (conventional reciprocal method), is a geophysical method to analyze seismic refraction data developed by J. G. Hagedoorn. It can be used to calculate the depth and velocity variations of an undulating layer boundary for slope angles less than ~10°. Theory In the plus–minus method, the near surface is modeled as a layer above a halfspace where both the layer and the halfspace are allowed to have varying velocities. The method is based on the analysis of the so-called 'plus time' t^+ and 'minus time' t^- that are given by: : t^+ = t_ + t_ - t_ : t^- = t_ - t_ - t_ where t_ is the traveltime from A to B, t_ the traveltime from A to X and t_ the traveltime from B to X. Assuming that the layer boundary is planar between A'' and B'' and that the dip is small (<10°), the plus time corresponds to the intercept time in classic refraction analysis and the minus time can be expressed as: [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Plus–minus (sports)
Plus−minus (+/−, ±, plus/minus) is a sports statistic used to measure a player's impact, represented by the difference between their team's total scoring versus their opponent's when the player is in the game. Ice hockey In ice hockey, the plus–minus measures a player's goal differential. When a team that is at even-strength or shorthanded scores a goal, all players on the ice on the scoring team will register a plus while all players on the conceding team on the ice will register a minus. When a goal is scored by a team on the power play, no plus or minus points are awarded to either team. Empty net situations are treated the same as even-strength unless the team that scores is on the power play. Penalty shot goals are excluded. A player's plus−minus statistic is calculated for each game played. The statistic is directly affected by overall team performance, influenced by both the offensive and defensive performance of the team as a whole. However, ... Plus–minus Sign
The plus–minus sign or plus-or-minus sign () and the complementary minus-or-plus sign () are symbols with broadly similar multiple meanings. *In mathematics, the sign generally indicates a choice of exactly two possible values, one of which is obtained through addition and the other through subtraction. *In statistics and experimental sciences, the sign commonly indicates the confidence interval or uncertainty bounding a range of possible errors in a measurement, often the standard deviation or standard error. The sign may also represent an inclusive range of values that a reading might have. *In chess, the sign indicates a clear advantage for the white player; the complementary minus-plus sign () indicates a clear advantage for the black player. Other meanings occur in other fields, including medicine, engineering, chemistry, electronics, linguistics, and philosophy. History A version of the sign, including also the French word ''ou'' ("or"), was used in its mathemati ... Plus-Minus (Stockhausen)
''Plus-Minus'', 2 × 7 pages for realisation, is a composition for one or several performers by Karlheinz Stockhausen, first written in 1963 and redrafted in 1974. It is Nr. 14 in the composer's catalogue of works, and has a variable performing length that depends on the version worked out from the given materials. The score is dedicated to Mary Bauermeister. History ''Plus-Minus'' is a " polyvalent process composition", designed as a project for the composition students attending the first Cologne Courses for New Music, held at the in October to December 1963. In it, various compositional premises of Stockhausen's are presented in such a way as to enable the most radically different concrete results. ''Plus-Minus'' was composed in September 1963 while Stockhausen was in Siculiana, preparing for what proved to be an aborted performance of '' Momente'' at the Palermo Festival: The piece represents an extreme instance of the new, open type of composition Stockhausen was dev ... Buke and Gase (formerly spelled Buke and Gass) ( and ) is a New York based musical duo named after the musical instruments invented and built by founders Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez; the ''buke'' is a six-string former-baritone ukulele and the ''gase'' is a hybrid guitar-bass. History 1998: moving to New York Arone Dyer had been writing songs since 1993, performing at coffee houses around her hometown of Willmar, Minnesota. As she was not formally educated in guitar playing, she tuned her Fender Classical acoustic guitar however she liked. In 1998, she competed against other musicians to win an opportunity to open the Lilith Fair in Minneapolis and sell her debut solo album ''Jump'' at the merchandise stall. Being just eighteen years-of-age, and graduating public arts high school that year; Dyer called the experience with the Lilith Fair a whirlwind for which she wasn't prepared. Following the Lilith Fair, her performances' intensity brought on debilitating carpal tunnel, f ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The band released its debut album, ''Unknown Pleasures'', in 1979 on independent label Factory. On 18 May 1980, the eve of the band's first North American tour, Curtis was found dead in his home.
