Mini-jazz
Mini-jazz () is a reduced méringue-compas band format of the mid-1960s characterized by the rock band formula of two guitars, one bass, and drum-conga-cowbell; some use an alto sax or a full horn section, while others use a keyboard, accordion or lead guitar. Origin The 1915-34 US occupation introduced jazz music to Haiti. Local music bands were sometimes called jazz in comparison to the American big band jazz. The word "jazz" has become the equivalent of band or orchestra. The mini-jazz movement started in the mid-1960s, when small bands called mini-djaz (which grew out of Haiti's light rock and roll bands of the early 1960s that were called '' yeye'' bands) played compas featuring paired electric guitars, electric bass, drumset and other percussion, often with a saxophone. This trend, launched by Shleu-Shleu after 1965, came to include a number of groups from Port-au-Prince neighbourhoods, especially the suburb of Pétion-Ville. Compas
Compas (; ; ), also known as konpa or kompa, is a modern méringue dance music genre of Haiti. The genre was created by Nemours Jean-Baptiste following the creation of Ensemble Aux Callebasses in 1955, which became Ensemble Nemours Jean-Baptiste in 1957. The frequent tours of the many Haitian bands have cemented the style in all the Caribbean. Therefore, compas is the main music of several countries such as Dominica and the French Antilles. Whether it is called zouk, where French Antilles artists of Martinique and Guadeloupe have taken it, or konpa in places where Haitian artists have toured, this méringue style is influential in part of the Caribbean, Portugal, Cape Verde, France, part of Canada, and South and North America. Shleu-Shleu
Shleu-Shleu is a kompa band formed on 22 December 1965 in Bas Peu de Chose, Port-au-Prince by former members of the groupes Lorenceau and Memfoubins, managed by Hugues "Dada" Jackaman (or Djakaman) an Arab Haitian businessman of Palestinian origin, and directed by Tony Moïse on the ashes of ''Les Manfoubins'' created by Jean Baptiste, Jacques Vabre, Camille Philippe and Kiki Bayard and ''Following the demise of Les Frères Lorenceau''. During their first appearance, Nemours Jean-Baptiste renamed them ''Mini Jazz'', due to their reduced format, thus unknowingly coining the term ''mini-jazz'', also referring to the mini-skirt fashion of the time. Volo Volo De Boston
Volo Volo de Boston (or simply Volo Volo) is a Haitian compas band based in Boston, Massachusetts. History The band was first formed in 1969 under the name ''Haiti Combo''. It was later changed to Volo Volo de Boston in 1972 with Eric Breneus as the vocalist approximately two years before the arrival of Ti Manno, Moise Desir, and Ricot Mazarin. In 1978, Chris Bazile and Fequiere Lucien joined the group as singers. The group became an international success instantly after the release of their first album entitled ''Caressé'', which earned them the title "Lover's Band" during the 70–90s while touring through Haiti, France and the French West Indies (Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana), Panama, Canada and across the United States where they were well received. Haiti

Exile One
Exile One is a cadence musical group founded by Gordon Henderson in the 1970s with musicians invited over from Dominica, to be based in Guadeloupe. The band was influential in the development of Caribbean music. It became famous throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean. Exile One opened the way for numerous Cadence-Lypso artists as well as for Zouk. History In 1969, Gordon Henderson (the " Creole father of soul" and "Godfather of Cadence-lypso") decided that the French Overseas Department of Guadeloupe had everything he needed to begin a career in Creole music. Méringue
Méringue (; ), also called ''méringue lente'' or ''méringue de salon'' (''slow'' or ''salon'' méringue), is a dance music and national symbol in Haiti. It is a string-based style played on the guitar, horn section, piano, and other string instruments unlike the accordion-based '' merengue'', and is generally sung in Haitian Creole and French, as well as in English and Spanish. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Magnum Band
Magnum Band is a kompa band formed on June 24, 1976 by (a.k.a. Dadou), former musician of the group Tabou Combo, and his brother (a.k.a. Tico) in Miami. In the late 70s the group became known in various clubs of Queens and Brooklyn thanks to the substantial Haitian community there. In 1980 they made their first international tour. In 1996, they performed at the 1996 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Atlanta. Les Frères Déjean is a kompa Compas (; ; ), also known as konpa or kompa, is a modern méringue dance music genre of Haiti. Tabou Combo
Tabou Combo is a Haitian compas band that was founded in 1968 in Pétion-Ville, a suburb of Port-au-Prince. The orchestra has performed throughout the world (North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and especially in the Caribbean). Tabou Combo was the first Haitian band to perform in Japan, Ivory Coast, Senegal among others, and were named the "Official Panamanian Band" in Panama due to their popularity, while also becoming the first Caribbean band to have a number one single in the French Hit Parade. They dynamically sung their songs in both English, French, Spanish and in Haitian Creole. Tabou Combo refer to themselves as the "ambassadors of konpa."
