Metronome (magazine)
''Metronome'' was a music magazine published from January 1885 to December 1961. History Founding (1885) Bandmaster Arthur Albert Clappé (1850–1920) first published ''The Metronome'' in January 1885 for band leaders. In 1891, Harry Coleman (1845–1895), a Philadelphia music publisher and publisher of a monthly music magazine ''The Dominant'', invited Clappé to become its editor. He accepted, and Carl Fischer (1849–1923) took over ''The Metronome'' as publisher until 1914. Violinist Gustav Saenger (1865–1935) succeeded Clappé in 1904 as editor and also continued as editor of the ''Musical Observer'' – also published by Fischer. Saenger continued as ''Metronome's'' editor until 1928. ''Die Musik'' was a German music magazine established in 1901 by Bernhard Schuster (1870–1934). It was published semimonthly by Schuster & Loeffler from Berlin and Leipzig. Schuster was its editor-in-chief from inception until July 1933, when the publication was taken over by the Third Reich. The final publication, under the name ''Die Musik,'' was February 1943. History First published on Septembere 20, 1901, ''Die Musik'' ran semimonthly through September 1915, suspended publication due to World War I. In 1922, the publisher, Schuster & Loeffler, merged with the Stuttgart firm Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt (de); and in October 1922, ''Die Musik'' (Vol. 25, Issue 1) resumed with Schuster as editor. A leaflet attached to the June 1933 issue marked its beginning as the official music journal of the Nazi Party. Bayreuther Blätter
''Bayreuther Blätter'' (''Bayreuth pages'') was a monthly journal founded in by Richard Wagner 1878 and edited by Hans von Wolzogen until his death in 1938. It was written primarily for visitors to the Bayreuth Festival. The newsletter carried frequent articles by Wagner himself as well as contributions from many of his circle. Some of these were very substantial; for example, Wagner's essays ''Religion and Art'' (October 1880) and ''Heroism and Christianity'' (September 1881). From 1880 to 1896 the journal carried extracts from the detailed recollections by Heinrich Porges of Wagner's rehearsal and staging techniques. The journal also had a political focus. In its pages, writers expressed support for Otto von Bismarck and the German Empire. After Germany's defeat in World War I, it showed opposition to the Weimar Republic, eventually supporting Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. The ' was a weekly musical review founded in 1827 by the Belgian musicologist, teacher and composer François-Joseph Fétis, then working as professor of counterpoint and fugue at the Conservatoire de Paris. It was the first French-language journal dedicated entirely to classical music.
