Global Union Federation
A global union federation (GUF) is an international List of federations of trade unions, federation of national trade unions organizing in specific industry sectors or occupational groups. Historically, such federations in the social democratic tradition described as ''international trade secretariats'' (ITS),. while those in the Christian democratic tradition described themselves as ''international trade federations''. Equivalent sectoral bodies linked to the World Federation of Trade Unions described themselves as ''trade union internationals''. Many unions are members of one or more global union federations, relevant to the sectors where they have their members. Individual unions may also be affiliated to a national trade union centre, which in turn can be affiliated to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) or the WFTU. The International Federation of Actors (, FIA) is a global union federation bringing together trade unions representing actors. History The federation was established in 1952, on the initiative of the British Actors' Equity Association, and the Syndicat Français des Artistes-Inteprètes. The organisation's logo was designed by Jean Cocteau. In 1970, the International Federation of Variety Artists joined the organisation. Communications International
The Postal, Telegraph and Telephone International (PTTI) was a global union federation bringing together unions of communications workers worldwide. History While a meeting of unions of communication workers was held in Paris in 1911, no lasting organisation was established until 1920, when the PTTI was founded at a meeting in Milan. Initially, the federation consisted entirely of European unions, but after World War II, it expanded worldwide, and by 1994 had four million members from every continent except Antarctica. By 1997, new forms of communication had grown in importance, and the federation renamed itself as the Communications International. Carpenters' International
The Carpenters' International () was a global union federation bringing together unions representing carpenters. The federation was established on 1 April 1903, on the initiative of the Central Union of Carpenters and Kindred Trades of Germany. This union provided the leadership for the international, and remained its largest affiliate. At its peak, the union also had affiliates from Austria, Bohemia, Denmark, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, but by 1923, it was left with only the German and Danish unions. The federation's final leader was Adolph Schönfelder. In 1925, it merged into the larger International Federation of Woodworkers, which allocated one seat on its four-person executive to a representative of the carpenters, this initially being Wilhelm Wolgast. Ferney-Voltaire () is a commune in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. It lies between the Jura Mountains and the Swiss border; it forms part of the metropolitan area of Geneva. It is named for Voltaire, who lived there from 1758. The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) is a democratic global union federation of transport workers' trade unions, founded in 1896. In 2017 the ITF had 677 member organizations in 149 countries, representing a combined membership of 19.7 million transport workers in all industrial transport sectors: civil aviation, dockers, inland navigation, seafarers, road transport, railways, fisheries, urban transport and tourism.
