Glatt () is the name of a lesser affluent to the High Rhine in the Unterland of the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. It is long and flows out from the Greifensee through the Glatt Valley, discharging into the Rhine by Glattfelden. Whereas the upper reaches are only gently inclined, the stream gets steeper beneath, forming banks of bed load. The hydronym reflects the (feminine) OHG adjective ''glat'', meaning either "bright, clear" or "plane, smooth".Gabrielle Schmid/Andres Kristol, ''Niederglatt ZH (Dielsdorf)'' in: ''Dictionnaire toponymique des communes suisses – Lexikon der schweizerischen Gemeindenamen – Dizionario toponomastico dei comuni svizzeri (DTS, LSG)'', Centre de dialectologie, Université de Neuchâtel, Verlag Huber, Frauenfeld/Stuttgart/Wien 2005, and Éditions Payot, Lausanne 2005, , p. 646. Glattpark
Glattpark is a large construction project in Switzerland that took shape in Opfikon, close to the border to Zürich. As part of the construction project a new neighbourhood was built by 2020; it is designed to provide room for 7,000 residents and about the same number of jobs. Some of the favourable locational factors used to market the area are the direct proximity to the city of Zürich, where similar construction projects are being realized in Oerlikon and Seebach. The large service companies based in the north of the city and other companies in Glattbrugg, Rümlang and at the airport promise a large number of potential jobs. One of the negative points is that the area is about two miles from the threshold of runway 34/16 of Zurich Airport and thus practically in the axis line of the runway. However, construction in the area placed a strong emphasis on noise isolation of the buildings, with inhabitants reporting that the noise levels are not significant. Headquarters The he ... Glattalbahn
The Glattalbahn, originally known as the Stadtbahn Glattal, was a project that was ultimately successful in introducing a modern rapid-transit system to the Glattal area of Switzerland, to the north of the city of Zürich. Stadtbahn Glattal was developed as a metre gauge tram system with through-running to Zurich. It was built and is owned by the Verkehrsbetriebe Glattal (VBG), but is operated under contract to them by the Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ). Stadtbahn Glattal is the official denomination of this system. This name is used in all official and legal processes. Elsewhere, the alternative term, Glattalbahn, is frequently substituted. The latter term correctly refers to the railway line from Wallisellen to Uster. It is, however, widely used for the Stadtbahn Glattal system and is prominent on the official website and advertising material. Stadtbahn Glattal is sometimes described in German as a ''Mittelverteiler'', i.e., intermediate distributor (intermediate betwee ...
