A gear train or gear set is a machine element of a mechanical system formed by mounting two or more gears on a frame such that the teeth of the gears engage. Gear teeth are designed to ensure the Pitch circle diameter (gears), pitch circles of engaging gears roll on each other without slipping, providing a smooth transmission of rotation from one gear to the next. Mechanical advantage is a measure of the force amplification achieved by using a tool, mechanical device or machine system. The device trades off input forces against movement to obtain a desired amplification in the output force. The model for this is the ''law of the lever.'' Gearing Family
Three generations of the Gearing family served in the United States Navy. *Henry Chalfant Gearing (9 June 1855 – 16 August 1926) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1876. Gearing served on various ships of the Navy during his early years, including ''Lackawanna'', ''Tuscarora'', and ''Essex''. He spent tours of duty at the Naval Academy and on board ''Glacier''. The ''Gearing'' class was a series of 98 destroyers built for the U.S. Navy during and shortly after World War II. The ''Gearing'' design was a minor modification of the , whereby the hull was lengthened by at amidships, which resulted in more fuel storage space and increased the operating range. The first ''Gearings'' were not ready for service until mid-1945 and saw little service in World War II. They continued serving, with a series of upgrades, until the 1970s. In finance, leverage, also known as gearing, is any technique involving borrowing funds to buy an investment. Financial leverage is named after a lever in physics, which amplifies a small input force into a greater output force. Financial leverage uses borrowed money to augment the available capital, thus increasing the funds available for (perhaps risky) investment. If successful this may generate large amounts of profit. However, if unsuccessful, there is a risk of not being able to pay back the borrowed money. Normally, a lender will set a limit on how much risk it is prepared to take, and will set a limit on how much leverage it will permit. It would often require the acquired asset to be provided as collateral security for the loan. Leverage can arise in a number of situations. Chris Gearing (born 11 December 1986) is a British strongman competitor, notable for having won the England's Strongest Man title and having competed at the World's Strongest Man. Biography Chris Gearing was born in Chatham, Kent. He was athletic as a child and at the age of 13 started training in Shot Put going on to compete in the World Under 18s, World Juniors, European Juniors, and winning a silver and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games under 19's in Australia.
