The flag of Maryland is the official flag of the U.S. state of Maryland and the 17th-century Heraldry, heraldic banner of arms of Cecil Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore, Cecil, 2nd Baron Baltimore. It consists of the arms of his father George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore, George, 1st Baron Baltimore (1579–1632), Quartering (heraldry), quartered with those of his grandmother, heiress of the Crossland family. Cecil Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore
Cecil Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore (8 August 1605 – 30 November 1675) was an English politician and lawyer who was the first List of Proprietors of Maryland, proprietor of Maryland. Born in Kent, England in 1605, he inherited the proprietorship of overseas colonies in Province of Avalon, Avalon (Newfoundland) along with Maryland after the 1632 death of his father, George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore (1580–1632), for whom it had been originally intended in a vast land grant from King Charles I of England, Charles I (1600–1649, reigned 1625–1649). Young Calvert proceeded to establish and manage the Province of Maryland as a proprietary colony for Catholic Church in England and Wales, English Catholics from his English country house of Kiplin Hall in North Yorkshire. History Of Baltimore
The history of Baltimore spans back to 1659, when the Baltimore County was declared erected by the General Assembly of Maryland. The area where the city now lays was settled by David Jones in 1661. While this has been inhabited by Indigenous people since the 10th millennium BCE, it was not until European settlers arrived that it was given the name Baltimore, after the Province of Maryland's founding proprietor. The city of Baltimore was founded in 1729. Early on, it was largely populated by German immigrants. The city gained prominence as a major hub for trade and commerce after successfully fending off British forces during the War of 1812. The Maryland Military Department (MMD) is a department of the State of Maryland directed by the adjutant general of Maryland. Baltimore

Uniform Of The Union Army
The military uniforms of the Union Army in the American Civil War were widely varied and, due to limitations on supply of wool and other materials, based on availability and cost of materials. The ideal uniform was prescribed as a dark blue coat with lighter pants, with a black hat. Officer's ranks were denoted with increasing levels of golden decoration. Specific jobs, companies, and units had markedly different styles at times, often following European customs such as that of the Zouaves.
