Electoral Division Of Rumney
The electoral division of Rumney is one of the 15 electoral divisions in the Tasmanian Legislative Council (upper house). The division is located in Southern Tasmania to the east of the division of Pembroke. The electorate is named after Mount Rumney in outer Hobart. The division covers an area of 434 km2 and includes a number of outer Hobart localities including; Lauderdale, Rokeby, Cambridge, Midway Point and Richmond. The division is held by Labor member Sarah Lovell. As of the last election on the 6 May 2023, the division had a total enrolment of 27,606 electors. Sarah Lovell
Sarah Elizabeth Lovell (born 9 October 1980) is an Australian politician. She has been the Labor member for Rumney in the Tasmanian Legislative Council since the 2017 periodic elections. Lovell was a union organiser for United Voice United Voice was an Australian trade union from 1992 to 2019. It merged with the National Union of Workers to form the United Workers Union in 2019. Tasmanian House Of Assembly
The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Tasmanian Legislative Council, Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House, Hobart, Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 35 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with seven members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. Tony Mulder
Teunis "Tony" Mulder (born 9 May 1955) is an Australian politician and perennial candidate. He was an independent member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council, representing the electoral division of Rumney from 2011 to 2017. Mulder is currently serving as a councillor on the Clarence City Council since 2018, having previously served as an alderman from 2005 to 2011. He was born in Rotterdam in 1955, and his family emigrated to Australia in 1957. He studied political science at the University of Tasmania. Mulder is a former police officer, and was a Commander in the Tasmania Police. He was director of the State Security Unit, the Tasmanian Police counter-terrorism taskforce. Although running as an independent candidate, Mulder openly retains links to the Liberal Party, for whom he ran as a candidate for Franklin in the 2010 state election. Lin Thorp
Lin Estelle Thorp (born 4 November 1953) is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council from 1999 until 2011, representing the electorate of Rumney, and serving as Minister for Human Services (2008–2010) and Minister for Education and Skills, Minister for Children, and Minister for Police and Emergency Management (2010–2011) in the Bartlett and Giddings governments. She was defeated for re-election to her state seat by independent Tony Mulder at the 2011 periodic elections, but was subsequently nominated to a casual vacancy for the Australian Senate in June 2012 caused by the resignation of Nick Sherry. Midway Point ( paredarerme/palawa kani: ''tipina'') is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Sorell in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. Rokeby is a suburb of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, Australia on the eastern shore of the Derwent River. It is part of the City of Clarence local government area.
