Depth (ring Theory)
In commutative algebra, commutative and homological algebra, homological algebra, depth is an important invariant of ring (mathematics), rings and module (mathematics), modules. Although depth can be defined more generally, the most common case considered is the case of modules over a commutative Noetherian ring, Noetherian local ring. In this case, the depth of a module is related with its projective dimension by the Auslander–Buchsbaum formula. A more elementary property of depth is the inequality : \mathrm(M) \leq \dim(M), where \dim M denotes the Krull dimension of the module M. Depth is used to define classes of rings and modules with good properties, for example, Cohen-Macaulay rings and modules, for which equality holds. Definition Let R be a commutative ring, I an ideal of R and M a finitely generated module, finitely generated R-module with the property that I M is properly contained in M. (That is, some elements of M are not in I M.) Then the I-depth of M, also com ...

Depth (EP)
''Depth'' is the debut extended play (EP) by Japanese singer Yuta released on October 3, 2024, by SM Entertainment and Avex Trax. Yuta wrote and produced six of the EP's seven tracks, including its lead single, "Off the Mask". The EP's lyrics see the singer exploring themes of rebirth, growth, and a desire to show a different side of himself from the K-pop idol persona portrayed in his boy band, NCT 127. Upon its physical release in November 2024, the ''Depth'' debuted at number four on Japan's Oricon Albums Chart, and was promoted by the singer with a showcase tour throughout Japan. Background and release As the first Japanese artist to debut under SM Entertainment, Yuta became a member of South Korean boy band NCT and its first sub-unit NCT 127 in 2016 with their first EP '' NCT#127''. Plumb-bob
A plumb bob, plumb bob level, or plummet, is a weight, usually with a pointed tip on the bottom, suspended from a string and used as a vertical direction as a reference line, or plumb-line. It is a precursor to the spirit level and used to establish a vertical datum reference, datum. It is typically made of stone, wood, or lead, but can also be made of other metals. If it is used for decoration, it may be made of bone or ivory. The measuring instrument, instrument has been used since at least the time of ancient EgyptDenys A. Stocks. Experiments in Egyptian archaeology: stoneworking technology in Ancient Egypt'. Routledge; 2003. . p. 180. to ensure that constructions are "wikt:plumb, plumb", or vertical. It is also used in surveying, to establish the nadir (opposite of zenith) with respect to Gravity of Earth, gravity of a point in space. It is used with a variety of instruments (including Level (instrument), levels, theodolites, and tape measure, steel tapes) to set the in ...

Fluid Pressure
In physics, a fluid is a liquid, gas, or other material that may continuously move and deform (''flow'') under an applied shear stress, or external force. They have zero shear modulus, or, in simpler terms, are substances which cannot resist any shear force applied to them. Although the term ''fluid'' generally includes both the liquid and gas phases, its definition varies among branches of science. Definitions of '' solid'' vary as well, and depending on field, some substances can have both fluid and solid properties. Non-Newtonian fluids like Silly Putty appear to behave similar to a solid when a sudden force is applied. Substances with a very high viscosity such as pitch appear to behave like a solid (see pitch drop experiment) as well. In particle physics, the concept is extended to include fluidic matters other than liquids or gases. A fluid in medicine or biology refers to any liquid constituent of the body ( body fluid), whereas "liquid" is not used in this ...

Depth Perception
Depth perception is the ability to perceive distance to objects in the world using the visual system and visual perception. It is a major factor in perceiving the world in three dimensions. Depth sensation is the corresponding term for non-human animals, since although it is known that they can sense the distance of an object, it is not known whether they perceive it in the same way that humans do. Depth perception arises from a variety of depth cues. These are typically classified into binocular cues and monocular cues. Binocular cues are based on the receipt of sensory information in three dimensions from both eyes and monocular cues can be observed with just one eye. Binocular cues include retinal disparity, which exploits parallax and vergence. Stereopsis is made possible with binocular vision. Monocular cues include relative size (distant objects subtend smaller visual angles than near objects), texture gradient, occlusion, linear perspective, contrast differences, a ...

Altitude
Altitude is a distance measurement, usually in the vertical or "up" direction, between a reference datum (geodesy), datum and a point or object. The exact definition and reference datum varies according to the context (e.g., aviation, geometry, geographical survey, sport, or atmospheric pressure). Although the term ''altitude'' is commonly used to mean the height above sea level of a location, in geography the term elevation is often preferred for this usage. In aviation, altitude is typically measured relative to mean sea level or above ground level to ensure safe navigation and flight operations. In geometry and geographical surveys, altitude helps create accurate topographic maps and understand the terrain's elevation. For high-altitude trekking and sports, knowing and adapting to altitude is vital for performance and safety. Higher altitudes mean reduced oxygen levels, which can lead to altitude sickness if proper acclimatization measures are not taken. Vertical distance ...

Altitude, Height, And Depth
Vertical position or vertical location is a position along a vertical direction (the plumb line direction) above or below a given vertical datum (a reference level surface, such as mean sea level). Vertical distance or vertical separation is the distance between two vertical positions. Many vertical coordinates exist for expressing vertical position: depth, height, altitude, elevation, etc. Points lying on an equigeopotential surface are said to be on the same vertical level, as in a water level. A function with domain along the vertical line is called a ''vertical distribution'' or ''vertical profile''. Definitions The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), more specifically ISO 19111, offers the following two definitions: * ''depth'': "distance of a point from a chosen reference surface measured downward along a line perpendicular to that surface." * ''height'': "distance of a point from a chosen reference surface measured upward along a line perpendicular to th ...

Depths Of Wikipedia
Depths of Wikipedia is a group of social media accounts dedicated to highlighting facts from Wikipedia. Created on Instagram by Annie Rauwerda in 2020, the account shares excerpts from various Wikipedia articles on a number of topics. Creation Annie Rauwerda, then a student in neuroscience at the University of Michigan, created the Depths of Wikipedia Instagram account in April 2020 as a personal project at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, intending to share various facts from the English Wikipedia among friends. According to Rauwerda, the project was inspired by a collage of excerpts from Wikipedia she had made for a friend's zine, and by a photograph from the Wikipedia article on cow tipping. She had been interested in Wikipedia before beginning the project, having spent time reading it as a child and Wikiracing with friends through middle and high school. Instagram influencer Caroline Calloway brought Depths of Wikipedia its first wave of followers, by boosting ...

Fluid (video Game)
''Fluid'' (known in Japan as ''Depth'') is a music video game developed by Opus and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. It was originally released in Japan in December 1996 and Europe in August 1998. The game's concept is an interactive sound lab which allows the player to create dance and electronic music. Gameplay The player character, a dolphin, goes through many stages in order to unlock more sounds, some of which including "Abyss Lair" and "Jungle Reef". Levels can be replayed and selected from the Silent Space, which contains twelve geometric shapes representing the levels "passed". The player starts in the first stage "Peace" and continues through to "Abyss", and ten other levels. Each level contains its own sound set, which can be imported into other levels on completion of the level. The sounds can be utilized to create dance and electronic music in the "Groove Editor". Groove Editor The "Groove Editor" allows for in depth manipulation of s ...

Criminal Intent)
In ordinary language, a crime is an unlawful act punishable by a state or other authority. The term ''crime'' does not, in modern criminal law, have any simple and universally accepted definition,Farmer, Lindsay: "Crime, definitions of", in Cane and Conoghan (editors), '' The New Oxford Companion to Law'', Oxford University Press, 2008 (), p. 263Google Books). though statutory definitions have been provided for certain purposes. The most popular view is that crime is a category created by law; in other words, something is a crime if declared as such by the relevant and applicable law. One proposed definition is that a crime or offence (or criminal offence) is an act harmful not only to some individual but also to a community, society, or the state ("a public wrong"). Such acts are forbidden and punishable by law. The notion that acts such as murder, rape, and theft are to be prohibited exists worldwide. What precisely is a criminal offence is defined by the criminal law of each r ...
