Breaking Wave
In fluid dynamics, a breaking wave or breaker is a wave whose amplitude reaches a critical level at which large amounts of wave energy transform into Wave turbulence, turbulent kinetic energy. At this point, simple physical models that describe wave dynamics often become invalid, particularly those that assume linear behaviour. The most generally familiar sort of breaking wave is the breaking of ocean surface wave, water surface waves on a coastline. Wave breaking generally occurs where the amplitude reaches the point that the crest of the wave actually overturns—the types of breaking water surface waves are discussed in more detail below. Certain other effects in fluid dynamics have also been termed "breaking waves," partly by analogy with water surface waves. Breaker (Vary Lumar Album)
''Breaker'' is the third studio album by the Boston alternative rock band Vary Lumar. Experiencing a lull in morale following the exit of original guitarist Ben Case, the band found themselves revitalized after a string of singles and performances with new member Christopher G. Brown. Working again with longtime producer Sean McLaughlin at 37' Productions, the band spent much of the Summer of 2014 tracking the album. A successful Kickstarter campaign enabled the album to be released on vinyl. ''Breaker'' was released to local acclaim, with The Boston Herald, The Noise, and DigBoston all praising the energy and composition of the album. "Breaker-Breaker" is a song by the American Southern rock band Outlaws. Written by Hughie Thomasson it is the opening track and lead single from the band's 1976 album ''Lady in Waiting''. ''Breaker! Breaker!'' is a 1977 American action film directed by Don Hulette and starring Chuck Norris. Plot J.D. (Chuck Norris), a trucker from California, returns from the road to learn that an old friend was assaulted and paralyzed by Sergeant Strode (Don Gentry), a policeman in Texas City, California. He makes inquiries into Texas City and learns that its policemen Strode and Deputy Boles (Ron Cedillos) have a history of "trapping" truckers for a corrupt judge named Trimmings who is running various rackets in the so-called "City". Ripening
Ripening is a process in fruits that causes them to become more palatable. In general, fruit becomes sweeter, less green, and softer as it ripens. Ship-breaking (also known as ship recycling, ship demolition, ship dismantling, or ship cracking) is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for either a source of parts, which can be sold for re-use, or for the extraction of raw materials, chiefly scrap. Modern ships have a lifespan of 25 to 30 years before corrosion, metal fatigue and a lack of parts render them uneconomical to operate. Ship-breaking allows the materials from the ship, especially steel, to be recycled and made into new products. This lowers the demand for mined iron ore and reduces energy use in the steelmaking process. Fixtures and other equipment on board the vessels can also be reused. While ship-breaking is sustainable, there are concerns about the use by poorer countries without stringent environmental legislation. Minette Walters
Minette Caroline Mary Walters DL (born 26 September 1949) is an English crime writer. Life and work Walters was born in Bishop's Stortford in 1949 to Samuel Jebb and Colleen Jebb. As her father was a serving army officer, the first 10 years of Walters's life were spent moving between army bases in the north and south of England. Her father died from kidney failure in 1960. While raising Walters and her two brothers, Colleen Jebb painted miniatures from photographs to supplement the family's income. Walters spent a year at the Abbey School in Reading, Berkshire, before winning a Foundation Scholarship at the Godolphin boarding school in Salisbury. During a gap year between school and Durham University, 1968, Walters volunteered in Israel with The Bridge in Britain, working on a kibbutz and in a delinquent boys' home in Jerusalem. ''Breaker'' is an outdoor sculpture by David Evans Black, installed on the Ohio State University campus in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Desctiption and history The abstract aluminum plate sculpture, which measures approximately x , was commissioned in December 1980 and dedicated on July 9, 1982. It cost $30,000–35,000, and Allied Fabricating and Welding Company served as the fabricator. The sculpture was originally installed near Mershon Auditorium, but was relocated on June 5, 1985, to the southeast corner of College Rd. and W. 18th Ave. because of construction of the Wexner Center for the Arts. The Smithsonian Institution describes the work as "a white twisting metal sculpture symbolizing the ocean's waves breaking on the shore".
