Badminton At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Mixed Doubles
The badminton mixed doubles tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place from 11 to 17 August at Riocentro - Pavilion 4. The seeding was decided on 21 July 2016. Indonesia's Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir defeated Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying in the final, 21–14, 21–12 to win the gold medal in mixed doubles badminton at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The pair won Indonesia's seventh Olympic medal in badminton, and became the second pair from Indonesia to win a gold medal in Olympic badminton after Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan achieved the feat in 2008. In the bronze-medal match, China's Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei defeated compatriots Xu Chen and Ma Jin 21–7, 21–11. Riocentro
Riocentro is an exhibition and convention center located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Built in 1977, it is the largest exhibition center in Latin America. Notable events 1981 May Day attack On April 30, 1981, during a May Day music concert, Riocentro was the target of a terrorist attack by hardliner members of the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964–1985). Sergeant Guilherme Pereira do Rosário and then-Captain Wilson Dias Machado, nowadays a Colonel, were responsible for detonating two bombs at the venue. Around 9 p.m., however, one of the bombs exploded in the lap of Sergeant Rosário, killing him and seriously wounding Machado. A second bomb exploded a few miles away at a powerhouse responsible for providing electrical energy to Riocentro; it was thrown over the fence and exploded on the ground, and the electric power supply was never interrupted that evening. Michael Fuchs (born 22 April 1982) is a retired international level badminton player from Germany. Michael Fuchs concentrates on doubles badminton competing with Johannes Schöttler in Men's and with Birgit Michels in the Mixed event. Chau Hoi Wah
Chau Hoi Wah (, also known as Cathy Chau Hoi Wah; born 5 June 1986) is a Hong Kong badminton player, specializes in doubles play. She was the first ever Hong Kong player that won the Asian Championships in 2014, and also a bronze medalist at the World Championships in 2017 alongside Lee Chun Hei. She competed at the Asian Games for four consecutive times from 2006 to 2018, and also in 2016 Summer Olympics. Reginald Lee Chun Hei (, born 25 January 1994) is a Hong Kong badminton player. He is a former Badminton Asia Championships, Asian Champion and BWF World Championships, World Championships bronze medalist in the mixed doubles category partnered with Chau Hoi Wah. Debby Susanto
Debby Susanto (born 3 May 1989) is an Indonesian former badminton player who specializes in doubles. She joined PB Djarum, a badminton club in Kudus, Central Java from 2006 until her retirement. Susanto known as Muhammad Rijal's longtime partner in the mixed doubles. The partnership ended in the end of the 2013 shortly after they won gold medal in 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar due to Rijal's resignation from national team. Since the beginning of 2014, she is pairing fellow Indonesian Praveen Jordan who was called up to the national team. Praveen Jordan (born 26 April 1993) is an Indonesian badminton player who specialises in doubles. He is a two-time All England Open Badminton Championships, All England Open champion in mixed doubles, winning in 2016 with Debby Susanto and in 2020 with Melati Daeva Oktavianti. He has played for the badminton club PB Djarum since 2008. Christinna Pedersen
Christinna Pedersen (born 12 May 1986) is a Danish badminton player. Career Christinna Pedersen is a right-handed doubles specialist. From 2008 onwards, Pedersen paired with Joachim Fischer Nielsen in mixed doubles. The pair gained two European mixed doubles titles, won bronze at the 2009 Hyderabad World Championships and at the 2014 World Championships, and came third at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Joachim Fischer Nielsen (born 23 November 1978) is a Danish retired badminton player. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles with teammate Christinna Pedersen. He retired from the international tournament in the end of 2018. Fischer Nielsen was named Badminton Denmark 2011 Player of the Year together with his partner in the mixed doubles Christinna Pedersen. He was later received Badminton Denmark's merit. Kim Ha-na ( or ; born 27 December 1989) is a South Korean badminton player. She was the mixed doubles gold medalist at the 2013 Asian Championships, and was part of the national team that won the Sudirman Cup in 2017. The Badminton World Federation, aka BWF, is the international governing body for the sport of badminton approved by the International Olympic Committee. It was founded on 5 July 1934 as the International Badminton Federation with nine member nations: Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales.
