Ajax (programming)
Ajax (also AJAX ; short for "asynchronous I/O, asynchronous JavaScript and XML") is a set of web development techniques that uses various web technologies on the client-side to create asynchronous web applications. With Ajax, web applications can send and retrieve data from a Web server, server asynchronously (in the background) without interfering with the display and behaviour of the existing page. By decoupling the data exchange, data interchange layer from the presentation layer, Ajax allows web pages and, by extension, web applications, to change content dynamically without the need to reload the entire page. In practice, modern implementations commonly utilize JSON instead of XML. Ajax is not a technology, but rather a programming pattern. Hypertext Markup Language, HTML and Cascading Style Sheets, CSS can be used in combination to mark up and style information. The webpage can be modified by JavaScript to dynamically display (and allow the user to interact with) the new i ... Ajax (play)
Sophocles' ''Ajax'', or ''Aias'' ( or ; , gen. ), is a Greek tragedy written in the 5th century BCE. ''Ajax'' may be the earliest of Sophocles' seven tragedies to have survived, though it is probable that he had been composing plays for a quarter of a century already when it was first staged. It appears to belong to the same period as his '' Antigone'', which was probably performed in 442 or 441 BCE, when he was 55 years old. The play depicts the fate of the warrior Ajax the Great, the second greatest hero at Troy (after Achilles), after the events of the ''Iliad'' but before the end of the Trojan War. Plot The play opens with a dialogue between Athena and Odysseus: After the great warrior Achilles had been killed in battle, there was a question as to who should receive his armor. As the man who now could be considered the greatest Greek warrior, Ajax felt he should be given Achilles' armor, but the two kings, Agamemnon and Menelaus, awarded it instead to Odysseus. Ajax (painting)
''Ajax'' is an oil-on-canvas painting by the American artist John Steuart Curry, created in 1936–1937. It depicts a well-fed Hereford bull with two cowbirds on his back. The painting is on view at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, in Washington, D.C. Creation The painting was made with the intention to reassure Americans after the Dust Bowl years. According to Curry's friend Reginald Marsh, it was really a self-portrait. Legacy Curry featured Ajax the bull in several of his works, such as the mural ''Kansas Pastoral''. The subject also became a target for mockery among those who opposed regionalist painting and considered it superficial. The satirist Marshall Glasier mocked both ''Ajax'' and Curry's position at the University of Wisconsin with his 1948 painting ''John Steuart Curry and the University of Wisconsin Bull-Breeding Machine''. Ajax, Utah
Ajax is a ghost town located in the Rush Valley area of southeastern Tooele County, Utah, United States. The town grew up around a unique department store started in 1869 by a Welsh immigrant named William Ajax. He operated the Ajax Underground Store until his death in 1899, and the settlement came to an end as the other residents left by 1900. All that remains today is a hole in the ground, with a historical marker standing nearby. History The area was first settled in 1863 by a group of Welsh farmers, who called their little settlement Centre (or Center) for its location in the middle of the valley between Stockton and Vernon. As numerous mines were being developed in eastern Tooele County in the 1860s, small towns began to dot the region. In 1869, William Ajax, whose department store business in Salt Lake City was failing, moved his family to a dugout in the Centre area. He had learned of the emerging market and started growing hay to sell to the mines. He built a two ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
