Zimbabwe Davis Cup Team
The Zimbabwe men's national tennis team represents Zimbabwe in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Zimbabwe Tennis Association. Zimbabwe currently competes in the Europe/Africa Zone of Group II. They last competed in the World Group in 2000. History Beginnings Zimbabwe competed in its first Davis Cup in 1963, as Rhodesia in the European Zone. They would defeat the Netherlands before going on to lose to Sweden in the second round. In the next two years they would get through to the second round of European qualifying. After skipping the 1966 and 1967 edition, they returned to the 1968 edition with protests in the original scheduled venue at Båstad as they had to move it to a neutral location in Southern France. Despite the issue, they would not go on to win a match in two years before taking a break, which would be until 1976 where they were supposed to take on Ireland but after withdrawing from that edition, they lost to Switzerland 3-2. 1963 Davis Cup
The 1963 Davis Cup was the 52nd edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 32 teams entered the Europe Zone, 9 teams entered the Eastern Zone, and 7 teams entered the America Zone. Rhodesia made its first appearance in the tournament. The United States defeated Venezuela in the America Zone final, India defeated Japan in the Eastern Zone final, and Great Britain defeated Sweden in the Europe Zone final. In the Inter-Zonal Zone, the United States defeated Great Britain in the semifinal, and then defeated India in the final. The United States then defeated the defending champions Australia in the Challenge Round, ending Australia's four-year title run. The final was played at Memorial Drive Park in Adelaide, Australia on 26–28 December. Zimbabwe Fed Cup Team
The Zimbabwe Fed Cup team represents Zimbabwe in Fed Cup tennis competition and are governed by Tennis Zimbabwe. They have not competed since 2008. History Zimbabwe competed in its first Fed Cup in 1966, as Rhodesia. In the opening match, they defeated Austria in a clean sweep (3-0) with Patricia Walkden recording the first victory for the team. In the second round, they would lose to Italy by the same margin to record their best result of the round of 16. After losing to the United States in 1967 and 1972 (they entered 1971 but withdrew), they entered the consolation round and they would knock over Norway in the first round of consolation before losing to Japan in the doubles rubber to be knocked out. After they withdrew again in 1975, they entered the 1976 edition hoping for a better display. Courtney John Lock (born 18 October 1996) is a Zimbabwean tennis player. Lock has a career high ATP singles ranking of 1,227 achieved on 9 December 2019. Benjamin Lock (born 4 March 1993) is a Zimbabwean tennis player. He is a member of the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team. Lock won his first ITF Pro Circuit singles title in Mozambique in 2015. In November 2014, Lock has won his first doubles title on ITF Men's Circuit, playing alongside Jean-Yves Aubone in Niceville, Florida. Lock has won 25 ITF doubles titles. The Austria Davis Cup team represents Austria in the Davis Cup and is governed by Tennis Austria. In 2010 Austria was re-promoted to the World Group after being relegated to the Europa/Africa Zone Group I only one year earlier.
