Zwolle–Almelo Railway
The Zwolle–Almelo railway is a regional railway line, that connects Zwolle with Almelo, Netherlands. History The railway was part of the third national construction period of railways in the Netherlands. This last phase of railway construction saw mostly the appearance of local and regional railways. With the Zwolle–Almelo railway, Zwolle and the northernmost provinces were offered a direct link to the Almelo-Salzbergen railway. Route The railway leaves Zwolle in southeastern direction and continues in a straight line to the town of Raalte. There it curves towards Nijverdal, where the railway continues underground for 1500 meters, as part of the Salland-Twente tunnel. It then continues to Wierden, where it merges with the Deventer-Almelo railway and continues to Almelo. The Intercity Materieel or ICM () is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen in the Netherlands. The train received the nickname Koploper, because it had a so-called "walk through head". After these trains were modernized, the "walk through heads" were removed. The modernized train sets are referred to as Intercity Materieel Modern (ICMm). The prototypes were built in 1976, with full-scale production lasting from 1983 to 1994 by Waggonfabrik Talbot, Talbot. The first train sets came into service in 1977. The NS Class 3400, referred to as DM'90, was a series of diesel multiple unit which were in service in the Netherlands between 1996 and 2017 and were built by Duewag, Talbot and SIG between 1996 and 1998. They were operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen and between 1999 until 2014 under lease by Syntus. DM'90, their classification, means diesel rolling stock (Diesel Materieel in Dutch) of the 1990s or Buffel, which means Buffalo. Enschede Railway Station
Enschede is the main railway station in Enschede, Netherlands. The station opened on 1 July 1866 and is on the Zutphen–Glanerbeek railway. Between the late 1970s and 2001, the passenger service to Germany stopped. The connection to Münster was reopened in 2001. There is no connection allowing the German trains to run any further into Overijssel; however there was before the line closed. From summer 2013 to summer 2014 the station is being largely modernised. The station was closed between 6 July and 18 August 2013, in which all the rails and overhead wires were replaced at the station. Platforms 1 and 2 were extended; platform 5 was closed.
