Zimbabwe Women's Bureau
The Zimbabwe Women's Bureau (ZWB) is a Zimbabwean women's NGO established in 1978. ZWB started as an effort by black Rhodesian academics, activists and businesswomen to "raise the awareness of women in the country, especially black women". To escape censorship by the Rhodesian Front, ZWB used churches as meeting places, portraying their activity as prayer groups. After independence, their survey of women's perspectives was published as a book, ''We Carry A Heavy Load''. As a branch of the National Farmer's Association of Zimbabwe, the Women's Bureau sponsored workshops and training sessions for women farmers. Publications * ''Black Women in Zimbabwe''. Rhodesia ( , ; ), officially the Republic of Rhodesia from 1970, was an unrecognised state, unrecognised state in Southern Africa that existed from 1965 to 1979. Rhodesia served as the ''de facto'' Succession of states, successor state to the Crown colony, British colony of Southern Rhodesia following a Rhodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence, unilateral declaration of independence issued by the ruling white-minority government. Throughout this fourteen-year period, Rhodesia faced internal conflict and political unrest. Following the Lancaster House Agreement in 1979, the territory returned to British political control and then subsequently gained internationally recognised independence as Zimbabwe in 1980. Rhodesian Front
The Rhodesian Front (RF) was a conservative political party in Southern Rhodesia, subsequently known as Rhodesia. Formed in March 1962 by white Rhodesians opposed to decolonisation and majority rule, it won that December's general election and subsequently spearheaded the country's Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) from the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1965, remaining the ruling party and upholding white minority rule through the majority of the Bush War until 1979. Initially led by Winston Field, the party was led through most of its lifetime by co-founder Ian Smith. Following the end of the Bush War and the country's reconstitution as Zimbabwe, it changed its name to the Republican Front in 1981.
