''You in Reverse'' is the sixth full-length album released by indie rock band Built to Spill. The band added one new member for this album, making Built to Spill a quartet for the first time. It was also the first album since Ultimate Alternative Wavers not recorded or produced by Phil Ek. The lineup was Doug Martsch, Brett Nelson, Scott Plouf, and Jim Roth. Sam Coomes
Samuel J. Coomes (born April 23, 1964) is an American musician, and one-half of the Portland-area indie band Quasi, along with his ex-wife, drummer Janet Weiss. Coomes was also a member of the mid-1980s underground pop band The Donner Party and replaced Brandt Peterson as the bassist for the 1990s Portland indie rock band, Heatmiser, playing on their final studio album, ''Mic City Sons''. Biography Coomes was born in Sherman, Texas, and moved to Southern California as a child. He started playing in The Donner Party in San Francisco in 1983 and released two albums with them before they disbanded in 1989. Coomes formed Motorgoat in Portland in 1990 with Janet Weiss (later of Sleater-Kinney) and they released two cassettes and one 7" single before disbanding and becoming Quasi in 1993. Coomes released a solo album under the name Blues Goblins in 2003 and sometimes performs under that name. Vibraphone
The vibraphone is a percussion instrument in the metallophone family. It consists of tuned metal bars and is typically played by using mallets to strike the bars. A person who plays the vibraphone is called a ''vibraphonist,'' ''vibraharpist,'' or ''vibist''. The vibraphone resembles the steel marimba, which it superseded. One of the main differences between the vibraphone and other keyboard percussion instruments is that each bar suspends over a resonator tube containing a flat metal disc. These discs are attached together by a common axle and spin when the motor is turned on. This causes the instrument to produce its namesake tremolo or vibrato effect. "Goin' Against Your Mind" is a song recorded by the American rock band Built to Spill for their sixth studio album, ''You in Reverse'' (2006). Jim Roth (born 1962) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter from Des Moines, Iowa. He has played with several indie bands including The Chant(Des Moines, Iowa), Sinister Sons, The Delusions, Voodoo Gearshift, Helvetia, and The Hollowmen. He also has released a solo album called ''Anti-Rad.'' Roth also played guitar in Built to Spill. Brett Nelson
Brett Nelson (born 1969) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter best known as the former bassist for the indie rock band Built to Spill. In high school, Nelson played in a band called Farm Days along with Doug Martsch and Andy Capps. Nelson's next band, Butterfly Train, released two albums on Up Records, in 1994 and 1996, before breaking up (Andy Capps was drummer for the latter album). In 1994, Nelson and Andy Capps joined Martsch's Built to Spill. Nelson has appeared on every album except the debut, '' Ultimate Alternative Wavers'' and ''Untethered Moon''. Nelson sings and plays guitar and keyboards for The Suffocation Keep, which released its debut album ''John Hughes Was Never So Wrong'' in 2002. The band completed a second album in 2004,''A Few Minor Modifications of the Stars''. The album was never released; however, the band did make it available for free download.
