Ynys Môn (UK Parliament Constituency)
Ynys Môn (; officially called Anglesey until 1983) is a United Kingdom constituencies, constituency of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is one of five 'protected constituencies' within the UK, with boundaries defined by the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 2020 to be to those of Isle of Anglesey County Council where there must be a whole number of MPs rounded up to the nearest whole number with these boundaries. The Ynys Môn (Senedd constituency), Ynys Môn Senedd constituency was created with the same boundaries in 1999 (as an Assembly constituency). Anglesey
Anglesey ( ; ) is an island off the north-west coast of Wales. It forms the bulk of the Principal areas of Wales, county known as the Isle of Anglesey, which also includes Holy Island, Anglesey, Holy Island () and some islets and Skerry, skerries. The county borders Gwynedd across the Menai Strait to the southeast, and is otherwise surrounded by the Irish Sea. Holyhead is the largest town, and the administrative centre is Llangefni. The county is part of the Preserved counties of Wales, preserved county of Gwynedd. Anglesey is the northernmost county in Wales. The Isle of Anglesey has an area of and a population of in . After Holyhead (12,103), the largest settlements are Llangefni (5,500) and Amlwch (3,967). Richard Bulkeley (died 1621)
Sir Richard Bulkeley (1533 – 28 June 1621) of Beaumaris, Anglesey and Lewisham, was a Welsh politician and courtier of Elizabeth Tudor, who sat in the House of Commons of England in 1563 and from 1604 to 1614. Life Bulkeley was the eldest son of Sir Richard Bulkeley, of Beaumaris and Anglesey by his first wife, Margaret ( Savage). He was appointed Constable of Beaumaris Castle in 1561 and elected the first Mayor of Beaumaris in 1562. In 1563, he was elected Member of Parliament for Anglesey, a position he obtained through the influence of his father. He was appointed High Sheriff of Anglesey for 1570. His father's sudden death gave rise to much scandal: he was on very bad terms with his stepmother Agnes Needham and accused her of poisoning his father. While Agnes had undoubtedly been unfaithful to her husband, there is no evidence that she was guilty of murder, and the jury acquitted her. William Lewis (1526-1601?) was an MP for Anglesey. Early life He was the first son of Hugh Lewis of Presaddfed Hall and his mother was Agnes, daughter of Sir William Gruffydd of Penrhyn. Sir Richard Bulkeley (1524 – 1572 or 1573) was a Welsh politician, and High Sheriff of both Anglesey and Caernarvonshire. Ancestry He was the eldest son of Sir Richard Bulkeley, of Beaumaris, Chamberlain of North Wales in 1534. His mother Catherine was the daughter of Sir William Griffith, Knight of Penrhyn Castle in the county of Caernarfon and his wife Jane Stradling. Life He was knighted at Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1547 by John Dudley, 1st Earl of Warwick and Lieutenant of the King's Army in Scotland. The Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 (c. 56) is an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It is the legislation defining the constitution and work of the four parliamentary Boundary Commissions in the UK.
