William Kurtz (photographer)
William Kurtz (1833 – December 5, 1904) was a German-American artist, illustrator, and photographer. He was also a pioneer in the development of halftone printing of color photographs. Early life Born in Hesse, Germany, he was apprenticed to a lithographer in Offenbach am Main at a young age and showed considerable artistic talent, taking first place in exhibitions while attending an art school there. However, after his two years of compulsory military service, he found he had lost his apprenticeship and moved to England to try his luck. Unable to find work there, he joined the British German Legion and went to fight in the Crimean War. After the war, he was still unable to gain employment as a lithographer, so he became a sailor for several years. In 1859, he decided he would travel to China with a friend. William Henry Kurtz (January 31, 1804 – June 24, 1868) was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Early life William H. Kurtz was born in York, Pennsylvania. He attended the common schools and the York County Academy at York. He studied law, was admitted to the bar on January 7, 1828, and commenced practice in York. Career He served as prosecuting attorney of York County, Pennsylvania York County ( Pennsylvania Dutch: Yarrick Kaundi) is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Wilhelm Józef Kurtz ( anglicised to William Joseph Kurtz; 28 May 1935 – 14 February 2023) was a Polish prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Kurtz was born in Kempa, Gau Silesia (now Kępa, Opole Voivodeship). He was ordained to the priesthood as a member of the Society of the Divine Word in 1962. He was appointed bishop of Kundiawa, Papua New Guinea, in 1982, serving until he was named coadjutor archbishop of Madang in 1999.
