William Broderick Crawford (December 9, 1911 β April 26, 1986) was an American stage, film, radio, and television actor, often cast in tough-guy roles and best known for his Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning portrayal of Willie Stark in ''All the King's Men'' (1949) and for his starring role as Dan Mathews in the television series ''Highway Patrol'' (1955β1959). Until filming ''All the King's Men'', Crawford's career had been largely limited to " B films" in supporting or character roles. He realized he did not fit the role of a handsome leading man, once describing himself as looking like a "retired pugilist". William Crawford (Canadian Politician)
William Crawford (August 28, 1847 – 1897) was a land surveyor, farmer and political figure in Manitoba. He represented High Bluff and Poplar Point from 1883 to 1886 in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as a Conservative. He was born in South Leeds, Canada West, the son of John Crawford. Crawford came to Manitoba in 1871 as an assistant surveyor. In 1875, he became a Dominion Lands Surveyor. He was hired in 1877 by the federal government as a valuator of the Canadian Pacific Railway right-of-way. Crawford was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the Manitoba assembly in 1879 before being elected in 1883. He also served as Swamp Lands Commissioner for Manitoba. He later farmed in the Dauphin area. Bill Crawford is a comedian and radio personality, best known for his work on ''The DVE Morning Show'' on WDVE in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania since January 2012. Crawford began doing standup in his native Pittsburgh in the early 2000s. In 2004, he was "discovered" by then-''DVE Morning Show'' host Jim Krenn, who invited him to become a regular guest on the show. As a result, he became a bigger name in Pittsburgh and began touring with big-name comedians. In January 2012, he joined the ''DVE Morning Show'' as a full-time member along with former host Scott Paulsen in light of Krenn's dispute with WDVE parent Clear Channel Communications and his dismissal from the show and station. Air Vice Marshal William Vernon Crawford-Compton, (2 March 1915 β 2 January 1988) was a New Zealand flying ace of the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War. He was officially credited with destroying at least 20 enemy aircraft. Born in Invercargill, Crawford-Compton joined the RAF in 1939. He qualified as a pilot the following year and was posted to No. 603 Squadron. In March 1941, he was transferred to a newly formed unit, No. 485 (NZ) Squadron. He flew numerous operations, including during the Channel Dash and was credited with a number of enemy aircraft destroyed. After recovering from injuries received in a crash landing, he served as a flight commander in No. 611 Squadron. He was given command of No. 64 Squadron at the end of 1942 and led it for the early part of the following year. William Monod Crawford
William Monod Crawford (1872β1941) was an Irish colonial civil servant in India and an entomologist. William Monod Crawford's father was a wealthy linen manufacturer. He was born in Paris on 31 October 1872, living there until he was sixteen when the family returned to Ireland. He served in the Indian Civil Service from 1895 to 1919, in which year he returned to Ireland in 1919 to live in Belfast. After 1919, he undertook various contracts for the Dunlop Rubber Company mainly in Burma. During his years in India and Burma, Crawford collected Lepidoptera. Between 1921 and his death, Crawford was a prolific author of notes on Irish insects. His main interests were Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. Many of his notes concerned migrant moths and butterflies, and he documented the occurrences of several rare hawk moths including the only Northern Ireland record of ''Hippotion celerio'' also known as the silver-striped hawk-moth. William Crawford ARSA (1822β1869) was a Scottish portrait and genre painter. Life He was born on 9 August 1822 in Ayr the second son of the auctioneer and poet Archibald Crawfurd (sic) and his wife Catherine Craig. His father placed him at the Trustees' Academy in Edinburgh, under Sir William Allan, where he gained a travelling bursary, which enabled him to study in Rome for about two years. On his return he conducted the drawing classes of the Trustees' Academy for several years, and also occasionally contributed art criticisms to Edinburgh newspapers. He was very successful and in 1850 is listed as a "portrait painter" living at a huge Georgian townhouse at 46 Great King Street in Edinburgh's Second New town. William Ernest Crawford (17 November 1891 β 12 January 1959) was an Ireland rugby union international during the 1920s. He was also a noted soccer player and was included in the Ireland squad for the 1924 Olympic Football Tournament. Club career While living in Belfast, Crawford played rugby union for Malone and soccer for Cliftonville. After moving to Dublin, he maintained his interest in both codes.
