WWCA (1270 AM) is a radio station in Gary, Indiana. It airs a Catholic format, and is part of Relevant Radio's Spanish language network. History Radio station WWCA, an ABC Radio affiliate in Gary, experienced its peak in popularity during the 1960s and 1970s primarily because of its community commitment and the popularity of its on-air personalities. Residents of Gary, Merrillville, Crown Point, Hobart and other northwestern Indiana cities and towns depended on WWCA for local news and sports coverage. Area residents tuned to WWCA for live on-the-scene coverage of breaking news events as well as weekly live coverage of high school sports. Broadcasts of basketball tournaments involved most of the on-air personalities broadcasting from multiple locations throughout northwestern Indiana. Gary is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The city has been historically dominated by major industrial activity and is home to U.S. Steel's Gary Works, the largest steel mill complex in North America. Gary is located along the southern shore of Lake Michigan about east of Chicago Loop, downtown Chicago, Illinois. The city is adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Park, and is within the Chicago metropolitan area. Ted Thorne (John “Ted” Thorne) (October 16, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan – April 3, 2007, in Michigan City, Indiana), at 17 became the youngest sports editor of a daily newspaper in the state of Indiana, the '' News-Dispatch'' in Michigan City. He was a television newscaster at WGN in Chicago during the mid-1950s and early 1960s. Despite being a resident of Michigan City, Thorne influenced public opinion in Gary where he was news and program director of the radio station WWCA. Thorne hosted the popular noontime program, ''Sound-Off''. He also delivered expanded newscasts at 12pm and 5pm. He was also briefly the news director at station WLOI in LaPorte, Indiana, a sister station to WWCA. The Four Seasons (group)
The Four Seasons are an American rock and pop band formed in 1960 in Newark, New Jersey. Since 1970, they have also been known at times as Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The band evolved out of a previous band called The Four Lovers, with Frankie Valli as the lead singer, Bob Gaudio on keyboards and tenor vocals, Tommy DeVito on lead guitar and baritone vocals, and Nick Massi on bass guitar and bass vocals. Frank James Reynolds (November 29, 1923 – July 20, 1983) was an American television journalist for CBS and ABC News. Reynolds was a New York–based anchor of the ''ABC Evening News'' from 1968 to 1970 and later was the Washington, D.C.–based co-anchor of '' World News Tonight'' from 1978 until his death in 1983.
