WAKE (AM)
WAKE (1500 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an oldies format. WAKE had an adult standards format until 2009, when it briefly switched to CNN Headline News, before adopting a classic country format in 2010. In November 2011, the station switched back to standards, using Dial Global Local's The Lounge format. After "The Lounge" was discontinued on June 17, 2012, WAKE switched to an oldies/classic hits format featuring hit music chiefly from the 1970s and early 1980s, again using a Dial Global source. Licensed to Valparaiso, Indiana, United States, the station is currently owned by Marion R. Williams. WAKE is a Class D radio station broadcasting on the clear-channel frequency of 1500 kHz. WAKE went off the air in June 2018. The owners have applied to the FCC (for a construction permit) to move to Hobart, Indiana. Valparaiso, Indiana
Valparaiso ( ), colloquially Valpo, is a city and the county seat of Porter County, Indiana, United States. The population was 34,151 at the 2020 census. History The site of present-day Valparaiso was included in the purchase of land from the Potawatomi people by the U.S. Government in October 1832. Chiqua's town or Chipuaw was located a mile east of the current Courthouse along the Sauk Trail. Chiqua's town existed from or before 1830 until after 1832. A clear-channel station is an AM broadcasting, AM radio station in North America that has the highest protection from Interference (communication), interference from other stations, particularly concerning night-time skywave propagation. The system exists to ensure the viability of cross-country or cross-continent radio service enforced through a series of treaties and statutory laws. Known as Class A stations since 1982, they are occasionally still referred to by their former classifications of Class I-A (the highest classification), Class I-B (the next highest class), or Class I-N (for stations in Alaska too far away to cause interference to the primary clear-channel stations in the lower 48 states). The Lounge (radio Network)
The Lounge was a 24-hour music network produced by Dial Global and distributed under their Dial Global Local brand (formerly by Waitt Radio Networks). The network's tag line was Great Songs and Stars. The format was discontinued on June 17, 2012, as part of a corporate reorganization by Dial Global which resulted in the elimination of the Dial Global Local brand and the absorption of most of the other DG Local formats into the main Dial Global portfolio. Its playlist was composed of adult standards and gold-based adult contemporary music from artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Carpenters, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, etc. that mainly targets listeners ages 25-54. Westwood One is an American radio network owned by Cumulus Media. The company syndicates talk, music, and sports programming. The company takes its name from an earlier network also named Westwood One, a company founded in 1978. The company was, at various times, managed by CBS Radio, the radio arm of CBS Corporation and Viacom. It was later purchased by the private equity firm The Gores Group before merging with Dial Global in 2011. In December 2013, Dial Global was, in turn, acquired by Cumulus Media. Prior to the sale's completion, Dial Global re-assumed the Westwood One name.
