Wrexham County Borough () is a Principal areas of Wales, county borough, with city status in the United Kingdom, city status, in the North East Wales, north-east of Wales. It borders the English ceremonial counties of Cheshire and Shropshire to the east and south-east respectively along the England–Wales border, Powys to the south-west, Denbighshire to the west and Flintshire to the north-west. The city of Wrexham is the administrative centre. The county borough is part of the preserved county of Clwyd. The county borough has an area of and a population of 136,055. The north of the county borough is relatively urbanised and centred on Wrexham, with a population of 44,785, its Wrexham industrial estate, industrial estate and several outlying villages, such as Brynteg, Wrexham, Brynteg and Gwersyllt. North Wales (Senedd Electoral Region)
North Wales () is an electoral region of the Senedd, consisting of nine United Kingdom constituencies, constituencies. The region elects thirteen members, nine directly elected constituency members and four Mixed member proportional representation, additional members. The electoral region was first used in the 1999 National Assembly for Wales election, 1999 Welsh Assembly election, when the National Assembly for Wales was created. Ken Skates
Kenneth Christian Skates (born 2 April 1976) is a Welsh Labour politician who has served as Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales since March 2024. Skates has represented the constituency of Clwyd South in the Senedd since the election of 2011. He is an alumnus of the University of Cambridge, and worked as a journalist prior to becoming a politician. In September 2014 he became the deputy minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport. Susan Lesley Griffiths (born 1960) is a Welsh Labour politician who was Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Social Justice from March to July 2024. Steve Witherden is a British Labour Party politician who has served as Member of Parliament for Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr since the 2024. Ideologically on the left, he is a member of the Socialist Campaign Group. Early life and career Witherden was born in Wrexham, Wales. He earned a degree in English Literature from the University of Wales, Lampeter, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Witherden worked as a teacher in his constituency for 18 years. He also served as a trade union representative from 2009 and as a county officer from 2015. Witherden is dyslexic and dyscalculic, and was illiterate until the age of 11. These experiences led him to become a teacher. Rebecca Gittins (born 1994) is a British Labour Party politician who has served as Member of Parliament for Clwyd East since 2024. She gained the seat by beating incumbent Conservative MP, James Davies. Career After coming to Coventry to study at the University of Warwick in 2013, she remained in the city, eventually being elected as a councillor for Earlsdon ward in Coventry City Council for the Labour Party, serving from 5 May 2019 to 18 September 2023.
