Wrestling At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Qualification
This article details the qualifying phase for wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The competition at these Games comprised a total of 344 athletes coming from the different nations; each had been allowed to enter a maximum of 18 (1 per event). Four places had been reserved for the host nation Brazil, and four more for the Tripartite Commission to invite wrestlers. The remaining spots were allocated through the qualification process, wherein the athletes earn places for their respective nation. For each place obtained by the host country in the qualification phase, one of these three reserved places was allocated to the Tripartite Commission. Wrestling At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 14 to 21 August at the Carioca Arena 2 in Barra da Tijuca. Wrestling had been split into two disciplines, Freestyle wrestling, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, Greco-Roman, which were further divided into different weight categories. Men competed in both disciplines whereas women only participated in the freestyle events, with 18 gold medals awarded. Amateur wrestling, Wrestling had been contested at every modern Summer Olympic Games, except 1900 Summer Olympics, Paris 1900. Around 344 wrestlers competed in 18 events at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In September 2013, a new change to the rules and guidelines of the sport had been instituted and overhauled by the International Olympic Committee and United World Wrestling, FILA (now known as the United World Wrestling). Nurislam Sanayev (; born February 9, 1991, in the Tuvan ASSR, Soviet Union) is a Russian-born Kazakhstani freestyle wrestler of Tuva heritage. He represented Kazakhstan at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the men's freestyle 57 kg event. He lost in the semi-finals and he then won his bronze medal match against Georgi Vangelov of Bulgaria. Earlier, he competed in the men's freestyle 57 kg event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in which he got eliminated in the repechage.
