Muhammad Bashir
Mohammad Bashir () (10 March 1935, in Lahore – 24 June 2001, in Lahore) was a wrestler from Pakistan. His bronze medal in freestyle wrestling in the welterweight class (73 kg) at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome was Pakistan's first individual Olympic Games medal. Bashir is the only Pakistani wrestler to become an Olympic medalist. Career Bashir was a three-time gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games. He also won four medals in the Asian Games, including a gold at 1966 Bangkok, two silver medals at 1962 Jakarta, one in freestyle and the other in Greco-Roman style, in addition to a bronze medal in 1958 Tokyo. His Commonwealth Games gold medals were earned at the 1958 Cardiff, 1962 Perth and 1966 Kingston Games. The 1962 Asian Games () also known as the 4th Asian Games, IV Asiad, and Jakarta 1962, were the fourth edition of pan-Asian multi-sport event sanctioned by the Asian Games Federation (AGF). The games were held from 24 August to 4 September 1962, in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was the first international multi-sport event hosted by the then-17-year-old Southeast Asian country. A pin, or fall, is a victory condition in various forms of wrestling that is met by holding an opponent's shoulders or scapulae (shoulder blades) on the wrestling mat for a prescribed period of time.
