World Rugby Men's Sevens Player Of The Year
The World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year is awarded by World Rugby each year. It was first awarded in 2004. The award is based in large part on the player’s performance over the course of the World Rugby Sevens Series, along with other Sevens tournaments during the year. From 2004 until 2008 the award was called the IRB International Sevens Player of the Year. From 2009 until 2013, it was the IRB Sevens Player of the Year. Since 2014, following the International Rugby Board becoming World Rugby, the award has been titled the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year. Antoine Dupont has won the World Rugby Men's Sevens Player of the Year award in 2024 and the World Rugby Men's 15s Player of the Year in 2021. World Rugby is the governing body for the sport of rugby union. World Rugby organises the Rugby World Cup every four years, the sport's most recognised and most profitable competition. Mikaele Pesamino (born 2 April 1984) is a rugby union player in the Samoa Sevens team. He was the highest point scorer in the 2009–2010 IRB Sevens World Series helping his country in securing their first World Series crown and was awarded the 2010 IRB World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year. Early sporting career Pesamino was born in Vailele on the island of Upolu in Samoa. Timothy John Mikkelson (born 13 August 1986) is a New Zealand professional rugby union player who plays as a forward for the New Zealand national sevens team. Cecil Sebastian Afrika (born 3 March 1988) is a South African rugby sevens player for the South Africa national team, where he plays at flyhalf. Alafoti Fa'osiliva (born 28 October 1985) is a rugby union player for English club Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership and in the national Samoa team. Early life Fa'osiliva grew up in the village of Afega, situated on the central north coast of Upolu island. He attended the local Sagaga Primary School followed by neighbouring Leulumoega College. Lolo Lui (born 4 January 1982) is a Samoan rugby union player. He captained the Samoa Sevens team which won the 2009–10 IRB Sevens World Series. Lui was born and raised in Moata'a, the same village as former All Blacks star Michael Jones and many other famous Samoan rugby players, such as Taufusi Salesa, Lolani Koko, and Alefaio Vaisuai. Humphrey Kayange
Humphrey Kayange (born 20 July 1982) is a Kenyan former rugby union player and organic chemist. Kayange is known within the rugby sevens community, as he has produced some of the best performances for the Kenya national sevens side. He is a former captain of the team. He is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In April 2025, Kayange was appointed to be the new Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Dakar in 2026.
