Woollahra House, Point Piper, Sydney
''Woollahra House'' refers to two mansions built on the same site in Point Piper, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The first house was built in 1856 by Sir Daniel Cooper and the second by his son, William Charles Cooper, in 1883. Both houses have been demolished, but two buildings still remain from the original structure. The gatekeeper's lodge from Sir Daniel Cooper's house, which was built in 1871, is now the Rose Bay Police Station, and the stables which are now Wyuna Court, a prestigious block of apartments. ''Rosemont'' is a heritage-listed residence at 14 Rosemont Avenue, Woollahra, Municipality of Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by James Hume and Alexander Campbell. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History Alexander Campbell ownership Rosemont was built around 1857Woollahra History & Heritage Society for Alexander Campbell, merchant banker and at one time a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council and his wife Harietta, who lived there. The stone was quarried in the grounds and Mr. Campbell was his own architect. Sir Daniel Cooper, 1st Baronet
Sir Daniel Cooper, 1st Baronet (1 July 1821 – 5 June 1902) was a nineteenth-century politician, merchant and philanthropist in the Colony of New South Wales. He served as the first speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the colony and was a noted philatelist. Cooper was given the hereditary title of Cooper baronet of Woollahra in 1863, the second of four baronetcies conferred to British expatriates in the Australian colonies. Early life Cooper was born at Bolton, Lancashire, England, the son of Thomas Cooper, merchant, and his wife Jane Ramsden. He was the nephew of the emancipated convict and extraordinarily successful businessman, Daniel Cooper, who took an interest in the education of his nephew. Bellevue Hill is a harbourside suburb in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, located five kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the Municipality of Woollahra.
