Woodward's Stores Ltd. was a department store chain that operated in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, for 101 years, before its sale to the Hudson's Bay Company. History Charles Woodward established the first Woodward store at the corner of Main and Georgia Streets in Vancouver in 1892. On September 12, 1902, Woodward Department Stores Ltd. was incorporated, and a new store was built on the corner of Hastings and Abbott Streets. In 1926 a store was opened in Edmonton and by the late 1940s the company operated numerous stores in British Columbia and Alberta. Park Royal Shopping Centre, also known as simply Park Royal, opened in 1950, is a shopping mall located in West Vancouver and X̱wemelch'stn, British Columbia, Canada. Park Royal was Canada's first covered shopping mall. Park Royal has seen multiple redeveloped projects within the last decade. Notably, in 2014, the district of West Vancouver approved a permit for the "removal of the storefront fabric canopies, faux columns and related ‘nautical’ theme designs" as well as the re-facing of the building to "create a cohesive look between Park Royal North and Park Royal South." Southgate Centre is a shopping centre in south Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, covering just under 90,000 square metres. It contains 159 retailers including Sporting Life, Winners, Uniqlo, Zara, Apple Store, London Drugs, H&M, Dollarama and Edmonton's only Restoration Hardware and Crate & Barrel. Westmount Centre is a shopping mall located in the Woodcroft neighbourhood of Edmonton. It opened in 1955 and is owned by First Capital Realty. It is anchored by Safeway, The Home Depot, and Dollarama. History The mall opened on August 18, 1955 as Westmount Shoppers' Park and was considered Edmonton's first shopping mall. Built at a cost of $5 million, the mall was anchored by Woodward's, Johnstone Walker, and Kresge. On January 14, 1956, The Sahara opened northeast of the mall property and consisted of a theatre and restaurant under one facility. Hastings Street is an east–west traffic corridor in the cities of Vancouver and Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. It used to be a part of the decommissioned Highway 7A. Chinook Centre (formally branded as "CF Chinook Centre") is the largest shopping mall in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located near the geographic centre of the city on Macleod Trail, north of Glenmore Trail about south of downtown, and three blocks west of the Chinook CTrain station. Oakridge Park (formerly known as Oakridge Centre) is a shopping centre in development at the Oakridge neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is located at the intersection of West 41st Avenue and Cambie Street. It was originally opened in 1959 by Woodward's Stores which anchored the centre until it was sold to Hudson's Bay in 1993. A Target was originally planned but in 2015 Target Canada filed for bankruptcy protection and announced the closing of all stores.
