Women's Football In Argentina
Women's football in Argentina has struggled to find a mainstream audience. While women's football clubs have existed in Argentina for decades, only in 1991 a group of clubs was allowed into the AFA (Argentina Football Association). Initially seven teams, the country saw the number of clubs with female teams rising to 35 in 1998, and then steadily plummet due to lack of interest. Many women face prejudice and stigma for playing the game. History The first recorded women's football match in Argentina was played on 13 October 1923 at Boca Juniors stadium. Club Atlético River Plate (women)
Club Atlético River Plate Women ( es, River Plate Femenino) is the Argentine women's football section of the homonymous club. Established in 1991, it was the inaugural champion of the Women's Primera A. In 2004, its leadership as the team with more championships (including a five-years streak between 1993 and 1997) was reached and surpassed by its archrivals, Boca Juniors. By March 2019, River Plate had won 11 of the 33 editions of the tournament. It has made one appearance, placing third, at the 2017 Copa Libertadores Femenina. 1971 Women's World Cup
The 1971 Women's World Cup (Spanish: 1971 Campeonato de Fútbol Femenil) was an association football tournament organised by the Federation of Independent European Female Football (FIEFF) in Mexico in August–September 1971. Held in Mexico City and Guadalajara, it featured women's teams from six countries and is the second known tournament to be named as a women's football World Cup after the 1970 edition in Italy. It was twenty years before the first official FIFA women's world cup. Alongside Mexico, who qualified automatically as hosts, teams from South America and Europe qualified to the 1971 cup. Denmark were the tournament champions, defending its title by winning the final 3–0 against Mexico, in front of a 110,000 crowd. Club Atlético All Boys () is an Argentine sports club based in Floresta, Buenos Aires. The institution is mostly known by its football team, which currently plays in the Primera B Nacional, the second division of the Argentine football league system.
