Women's Squash Association
The Women's Squash Association (WSA) was the governing body for the women's professional squash circuit between 2011 and 2014. It was based in London, England. The body operated in a similar fashion to the WTA for tennis. The WSA World Tour involved over 100 tournaments annually all over the globe. Over 250 players were registered with the WSA and rankings were updated monthly based on players' performances. In November 2014, the WSA and the PSA announced a historic merger between the two associations. A decision was reached that will see the PSA operate as the governing body for both the women's and men's ranks from January 1, 2015. Squash (sport)
Squash is a racket-and- ball sport played by two or four players in a four-walled court with a small, hollow, rubber ball. The players alternate in striking the ball with their rackets onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court. The objective of the game is to hit the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. There are about 20 million people who play squash regularly world-wide in over 185 countries. The governing body of Squash, the World Squash Federation (WSF), is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), but the sport is not part of the Olympic Games, despite a number of applications. Prize Money
Prize money refers in particular to naval prize money, usually arising in naval warfare, but also in other circumstances. It was a monetary reward paid in accordance with the prize law of a belligerent state to the crew of a ship belonging to the state, either a warship of its navy or a privateer vessel commissioned by the state. World Squash Federation
The World Squash Federation (WSF) is the international federation for squash, an indoor racket sport which was formerly called "squash rackets". The WSF is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the International Federation (IF) for squash, and is also a member of the Global Association of International Sports Federations and the Association of the IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF). It is based in Hastings in England. As of 2021 it has 122 member federations. The first squash court was built in England in 1865; there are now around 50,000 courts in more than 185 nations worldwide. Official Women's Squash World Ranking
The Official Women's Squash World Ranking is the official world ranking for women's squash. The ranking is to rate the performance level of female professional squash player. It is also a merit-based method used for determining entry and seeding in women's squash tournaments. The rankings are produced monthly. The current world number one is Nouran Gohar of Egypt, who replaced Raneem El Welily in July 2020. The WISPA, the WSA and the PSA has used a computerized system for determining the rankings since April 1984. PSA ranking policy Players competing in PSA tournaments earn ranking points according to how far they get in the draw. The points available depend on the prize money and the draw size. World Series Squash Finals
The PSA World Tour Finals is the end of season championship of the PSA World Tour of male and female professional squash players. The top eight players in the current PSA World Tour is qualified for the event. The eight players compete in two groups of four and play a round robin to determine the semi-finalists. The competition then becomes a knock-out competition to determine the World Series Finals champions. The event has been staged since 1993 in Zurich, Hatfield, London and Manchester and then London again before switching to Dubai in 2016. The event has prize money of $160,000. In 2012 the event added a women's section 2011 and 2013 has seen the women compete again during the day session, with the men competing in the evening session.
