Field hockey (or simply referred to as hockey in some countries where ice hockey is not popular) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with 11 players in total, made up of 10 field players and a goalkeeper. Women's FIH Hockey Nations Cup
The Women's FIH Hockey Nations Cup is an international women's field hockey tournament organised annually by the International Hockey Federation. The tournament serves as the qualification tournament for the Women's FIH Pro League. The tournament was founded in 2019 and the first edition was held in December 2022 in Valencia, Spain. Format The tournament features the eight highest ranked teams in the FIH Women's World Ranking not participating in the Women's FIH Pro League. The winner of the tournament will be promoted to the following year's FIH Pro League to replace the bottom team who will be relegated. The team will only be promoted if they meet the necessary requirements for participation in the Pro League. The winner of the first edition will qualify for the 2023–24 season of the FIH Pro League. The 2024–25 Women's FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2 is the first edition of the Women's FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2, the annual qualification tournament for the FIH Hockey Nations Cup organised by the International Hockey Federation. The tournament is held in Wałcz, Poland from 16 to 22 June 2025. The defending champions France defended their title by defeating Uruguay 3–1 in a shoot-out after the match finished 3–3. Wałcz
Wałcz (pronounced ; ) is a county town in Wałcz County of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in northwestern Poland. Granted city rights in 1303, Wałcz has become the administrative, industrial and cultural center of the Wałcz Lake District with the city itself situated on the banks of the Raduń and Zamkowe lakes. In field hockey, a penalty shootout is a method used to decide which team progresses to the next stage of a tournament (or wins the tournament) following a tied game. Two methods have been used: the original penalty stroke competition is a best-of-five penalty strokes with sudden death if scores were level after five strokes.
