Education in Africa can be divided primarily into pre- colonial and post-colonial influences. European-style schooling systems took a primary focus during heavy colonial influences in Africa. Particularly in West and Central Africa, education has been characterized by traditional teaching balanced with a European-style schooling systems residual of the continent's heavily colonial past. Education in modern African societies is influenced by the lingering effects of colonialism, neocolonialism, and political instability caused by armed conflicts across the continent. A rite of passage is a ceremony or ritual of the passage which occurs when an individual leaves one group to enter another. It involves a significant change of social status, status in society. In cultural anthropology the term is the Anglicisation of ''rite de passage'', a French term innovated by the Ethnography, ethnographer Arnold van Gennep in his work ''Les rites de passage'', ''The Rites of Passage''. Dipo
Dipo rites are one of the most popular, yet criticized, Puberty rite, puberty rites and practices in Ghana, yet is one of the most attended events in the country, receiving huge numbers of tourists. The rite is performed by the people of Krobo Odumase, Odumase Krobo in the Central Region (Ghana), Eastern region of Ghana. The rite is performed in April every year. It is used to usher virgin girls into puberty or womanhood, and signifies that a participating girl is of age to be married. Parents, upon hearing the announcement of the rite, send their qualified girls to the chief priest. The girls, however, have to go through rituals and tests to prove their chastity before they qualify to partake in the festival. Oral storytelling is the human activity and tradition of intimate storytelling, dating back before ancient times, in which a speaker verbally relates a story to an audience in physically close proximity. Often, the participants are seated together in a circular fashion. The intimacy and connection are deepened by the flexibility of oral storytelling which allows the tale to be molded according to the needs of the audience and the location or environment of the telling. Informal education is a general term for education that can occur outside of a traditional lecture or school based learning systems.
