Wisconsin's 16th Assembly District
The 16th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district is entirely contained within the boundaries of the city of Milwaukee in central Milwaukee County. It comprises much of downtown Milwaukee, including the campus of Marquette University, Fiserv Forum, the Milwaukee Public Museum, and the Marquette Interchange. The district is represented by Democrat Kalan Haywood, since January 2019. The 16th Assembly district is located within Wisconsin's 6th Senate district, along with the 17th and 18th Assembly districts. History The district was created in the 1972 redistricting act1971 Wisc. The 17th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district is entirely contained within the boundaries of the city of Milwaukee in central Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, Milwaukee County. It comprises neighborhoods of Milwaukee's west side, including northern List of neighborhoods of Milwaukee#Enderis Park, Enderis Park, Capitol Heights, and Lincoln Creek. It includes the historic Holy Cross Cemetery (Milwaukee), Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery and Mount Mary University. Leon Young
Leon D. Young (born July 4, 1967) is a police officer and former Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 16th Assembly District from 1992 until 2018. Gaining office In 1992, his aunt, incumbent Marcia P. Coggs ( 18th District), waited until just hours before the deadline for filing nomination papers to announce her retirement. Only one potential competitor had time to file nomination papers, since no challengers had planned to file against Coggs for the Democratic nomination (tantamount to election in this heavily-African-American, reliably Democratic district). (Wisconsin's statutes have been changed to prevent such a surprise being repeated.) Young was elected to his aunt's seat and has been re-elected ever since. Spencer Coggs
G. Spencer Coggs (born August 6, 1949) is an American public administrator and Democratic politician. He is the current Milwaukee City Treasurer, since April 2012. He previously served 10 years in the Wisconsin State Senate and 20 years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Milwaukee's west side. Early life, education and career Coggs was a City of Milwaukee health officer (and Chief Steward of his AFSCME union local), postal worker and industrial printer. Early life and education Bell was born on September 2, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her parents are Harold Arthur Jeske and Luella Ruth Jeske (née Block). Michael Elconin (born June 20, 1953) is an American politician, investor, and technology consultant. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the part of the north side of the city of Milwaukee during the 1970s. He was later executive secretary to Wisconsin Governor Martin J. Schreiber. He was the youngest member ever elected to the Wisconsin Legislature, and was just 19 years old when sworn in in January 1973. West Allis is a city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. A suburb of Milwaukee, it is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The population was 60,325 at the 2020 census. History The name West Allis derives from Edward P. Allis, whose Edward P. Allis Company was a large Milwaukee-area manufacturing firm in the late 19th century. In 1901, the Allis company became Allis-Chalmers, and in 1902 built a large new manufacturing plant west of its existing plant. The locale in which the new plant was constructed was at the time called North Greenfield, and prior to the 1880s had been called Honey Creek.
