Wind power in Wisconsin started in 1990 with the installation of the Lincoln Turbines wind farm, and contributes to the state's renewable portfolio standard established in 1998. In 2016, Wisconsin had a wind generating capacity of 648 megawatts (MW), responsible for generating 2.4% of its electricity. In 2019, this increased to a capacity of 737 MW, and a 2.63% of generation. Regulations regarding the siting of wind turbines substantially hinder the development of wind farms in the state. A 98 MW wind farm, the Quilt Block Wind Farm, was under construction in southwest Wisconsin as of February 2017. Cashton, Wisconsin
Cashton is a village in Monroe County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,158 at the 2020 census. History The settlement began in 1854 when Thompson Hazen established an inn at a nearby bend in the stagecoach road from Prairie du Chien to Black River Falls, Wisconsin. The location was then known as ''Hazen's Corners''. In 1879, the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad built a branch line from Sparta to Viroqua, Wisconsin through the area, drawing additional settlers. The same year, local merchant William H. H. Cash spearheaded construction of a railroad depot and had the village platted, renaming it ''Cashton''. Shirley Wind
Shirley Wind is a wind farm in the Shirley section of Glenmore, Brown County, Wisconsin. The site, which opened in 2011, includes eight Nordex 2.5 (MW) wind turbines, each about tall. Originally developed by Emerging Energies LLC, it is owned by Duke Energy. When the wind farm was built, the turbines were the tallest in the state of Wisconsin, and among the tallest in North America.
