William Hill (Australian Politician)
William Caldwell Hill (14 April 1866 – 15 November 1939) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Australian Country Party (1920), Country Party and served in the Australian House of Representatives, House of Representatives from 1919 to 1934. He was Department of Works and Railways, Minister for Works and Railways in the Bruce–Page government from 1924 to 1928. Early life Hill was born on 14 April 1866 at Burnt Creek near Dunolly, Victoria. He was the son of English immigrants Sarah (née Baker) and John Hill; his mother was illiterate. William Hill was a Scottish blacksmith and fabricator of works in iron for James V of Scotland. Hill had a forge in Edinburgh Castle. He made many iron gates and windows grills called yetts. Examples can be seen at Stirling Castle and Blackness Castle. In several other locations fixing holes in the masonry window surrounds can still be seen, especially around the central window of the ruined East Quarter of Falkland Palace, where Hill made a window for the bedchamber "where the king lies". The accounts mention that this yett had 6 upright standards and 14 horizontal "thortouris". These iron window grills were painted with red lead and finished with vermilion. William Hill (born April 21, 1959) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He also was a member of the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at the Rutgers University. William Arthur Hill (31 October 1896 – 14 December 1958) was a British track and field athlete who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. Career Hill, born in Bromley, Greater London, became the National 100 yards champion and the National 220 yards champion, after winning the AAA Championships title at the 1919 AAA Championships. Hill was unable to repeat the success the following year, finishing second and third respectively in the 100 and 220 yards events behind Harry Edward at the 1920 AAA Championships. The following month at the 1920 Olympic Games held in Antwerp, Belgium, Hill was a member of the British relay team which finish fourth in the 4 × 100 metre relay event. In the 100 metres competition he was eliminated in the semi-finals and in the 200 metres event he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. He is credited as co-discoverer of the Hill–Robertson effect with his doctoral advisor, Alan Robertson. William Charles Osman Hill FRSE FZS FLS FRAI (13 July 1901 – 25 January 1975) was a British anatomist, primatologist, and a leading authority on primate anatomy during the 20th century. He is best known for his nearly completed eight-volume series, '' Primates: Comparative Anatomy and Taxonomy'', which covered all living and extinct primates known at the time in full detail and contained illustrations created by his wife, Yvonne.
