William Henry Foster (Bridgnorth MP)
William Henry Foster (9 April 1846 – 9 March 1924) was an English Conservative Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1870 to 1885. He was originally elected as a Liberal but switched to the Conservatives before the 1880 election. Early life Foster was born on 9 April 1846, the son of William Orme Foster of Apley Park, Shropshire and his wife Isabella Grazebrook, daughter of Henry Grazebrook of Liverpool. His father had been MP for South Staffordshire. Foster was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. Career He was a Justice of the Peace (JP) and Deputy Lieutenant for Shropshire and a JP for Northamptonshire, and an Alderman of Shropshire County Council. In February 1870 Foster was elected at a by-election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bridgnorth. William Dewey Foster
William Dewey Foster (1890 – 1958) was an American architect. Foster received his training from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During the 1910s and 1920s, he worked as a draftsman for a number of architectural firms before going into private practice. In 1934 he, along with 20 other architects, were hired on a consultatory basis by the Office of the Supervising Architect to help with the increased workload of New Deal projects. During his eight-year tenure with the Office he designed a number of post office buildings located in the New York City area. He also designed the Weather Bureau (1940) and State Department (1942) offices. William Chapman Foster (April 27, 1897 – October 15, 1984) was an American businessman and high-ranking government official. He served as United States Under Secretary of Commerce and United States Deputy Secretary of Defense under President Harry Truman. Later, he served as the first United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency director, under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Sir William Foster (19 November 1863 – 11 May 1951) was a British historiographer and civil servant who was Registrar and Superintendent of Records in the India Office. He was a member of the Hakluyt Society and was "the foremost authority on the detailed history of early British relations with India and other countries in Asia." Biography Foster was born on 19 November 1863, the son of a civil servant. He was educated in the Coopers' Company's (Grammar) School for Boys and London University. In 1882 he entered India Office and continued working there until 1927. He became Registrar and Superintendent of Records from 1907 to 1923 and Historiographer to the India Office from 1923 to 1927. William Foster (swimmer)
William Foster (10 July 1890 – 17 December 1963) was an English competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the 1908 and 1912 Olympics. He was freestyle swimmer who won gold and bronze medals as a member of British relay teams and set a world record in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay. At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, he won the gold medal as part of the British 4×200-metre freestyle relay team and did not compete in any other competition. In the 400-metre freestyle final, he finished fourth, and in the 1500-metre freestyle event he was eliminated in the semi-finals. Four years later, at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, he won the bronze medal as part of the British 4×200-metre freestyle relay team. William Foster (Scottish Cricketer)
William John Foster (born 3 February 1934) is a Scottish former first-class cricketer and Royal Marines officer. Foster was born at Glasgow and was educated in England at Harrow School. He was commissioned into the Royal Marines as a second lieutenant in November 1952. He was made an acting lieutenant in April 1954, with promotion to the full rank of lieutenant in May 1956. He was promoted to the rank of captain in January 1964. William Foster (8 June 1859 – 1 November 1944) was an English cricketer. Foster's batting style is unknown. He was born at Beeston, Nottinghamshire. Foster made a single first-class appearance for Nottinghamshire against the Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord's in 1889. Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat first, making 176 all out, with Foster being dismissed for a duck by Dick Pougher. Responding, the Marylebone Cricket Club were dismissed for 106 all out in their first-innings, with Nottinghamshire then dismissed for 86 in their second-innings, with Foster once more dismissed for a duck, this time by Alec Hearne. Chasing 157 for victory, the Marylebone Cricket Club reached their target with seven wickets in hand. This was his only major appearance for the county. William Foster (born 1591), was an English clergyman and writer. Life Foster was the son of William Foster of London, a barber-surgeon, and was born in November 1591. He entered Merchant Taylors' School in July 1607, and two years later (8 December 1609) was admitted of St John's College, Oxford, whence he graduated. Having taken holy orders he became chaplain (1628) to Robert Dormer, 1st Earl of Carnarvon, and soon afterwards rector of Hedgerley, Buckinghamshire. The date of his death is unclear. Works He published a short treatise against the use of weapon-salve, entitled ‘Hoplo-Crisma Spongus, or a Sponge to wipe away the Weapon-Salve, wherein is proved that the Cure taken up among us by applying the Salve to the Weapon is magical and unlawful’ (1629 and 1641).
