Vilhelmina Municipality (; ) is a municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its seat is located in Vilhelmina. History In 1804 the parish of Volgsjö was renamed Vilhelmina in honour of Queen Frederica Dorothea Wilhelmina of Sweden. In 1947 the locality Vilhelmina was detached from the rural municipality with the same name, forming the market town (''köping'') of Vilhelmina. The two entities were reunited in 1965. Vilhelmina ( Southern Sami: ''Vualtjere'') is a locality and the central town of Vilhelmina Municipality in Västerbotten County, in the province of Lapland, Sweden with 3,657 inhabitants in 2010. SS ''Wilhelmina'' (1888) was a cargo steamship. Owned by an US company during WWI, while sailing from New York City to Hamburg in early 1915 it was seized by the British for carrying contraband foodstuffs, triggering a diplomatic incident over how the British naval blockade of Germany impacted neutral trading rights. The ship was built as SS ''New Borough'' at William Gray & Company, in West Hartlepool, England in 1888, commissioned by the trading company owned by Sir Christopher Furness. In April 1895, the ship ran aground off Wash Wood Beach near the Virginia/North Carolina border, and though there was no loss of life the ship was written off as a total loss. However, the ship was sold to and then repaired by the Gulf Transit Company, a subsidiary of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad company. USS ''Wilhelmina'' (ID-2168) was a transport for the United States Navy during World War I. Built in 1909 for Matson Navigation Company as SS ''Wilhelmina'', she sailed from the West Coast of the United States to Hawaii until 1917. After her war service, she was returned to Matson and resumed Pacific Ocean service. In the late 1930s she was laid up in San Francisco, California, until sold to a British shipping company in 1940. The Wilhelminagebergte () is a mountain range in the district of Sipaliwini in central Suriname. It extends about from west to east. It is named after Queen Wilhelmina. The Wilhelminagebergte is part of the Tumucumaque Uplands of the Guiana Shield. It belongs to the very ancient (Precambrian) Guiana Highlands. Most of it is in the Central Suriname Nature Reserve. Its best-known peaks are the Julianatop, 1280 m and the country's highest peak, and the Tafelberg, 1026 m. The area is surrounded by tropical rain forest and covered by other forests. It is biologically very diverse, with an estimated 3,000 higher plant species.
