Wheelchair Basketball At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Men's Tournament
The 2024 Summer Paralympics men's tournament in Paris began on 29 August and ended on 7 September 2024. The matches were played at the Bercy Arena. This was the fifteenth edition of the tournament since the tournament debut at the 1968 Summer Paralympics in Tel Aviv. Eight teams were separated into two groups of four to determine the ranking for matches in the knockout stage of the competition. From there it was a knockout format which would lead to the gold medal match. Competition schedule Qualification The top four nations earn sports for their Zones, the winners of the zonal championships will qualify for the Paralympics. Teams are invited to the repechage tournament if the team hasn't earned a quota based on their zonal place rankings via the World Championships. Bercy Arena
Accor Arena (originally known as the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy), also known as Bercy Arena, is an indoor sports arena and concert hall in the neighbourhood of Bercy, on the Boulevard de Bercy, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, France. The closest Métro station is Bercy, which also serves the Finance Ministry. Designed by the architectural firm Andrault-Parat, Jean Prouvé and Aydin Guvan, the pyramidal arena's sloping walls are covered with a lawn. It can seat 7,000 to 20,300 people, depending on the event. Steve Serio
Steven Dillon Serio (born September 8, 1987) is a wheelchair basketball player. As a co-captain of the USA Men's National Wheelchair Basketball Team, he led the American men to their first Paralympic gold medal since 1988 at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games and defended the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. He currently plays for the New York Rolling Knicks in thNWBAChampionship Division. Biography Serio grew up in Westbury, New York and graduated from Carle Place High School in 2005. Patrick Anderson (born August 22, 1979) is a Canadian wheelchair basketball player and a six-time member of Canada's Paralympic Team. Personal life Anderson was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and he grew up in Fergus, Ontario. At the age of nine he was hit by a drunk driver, and as a result lost both his legs below the knee. Because of this, he is classified as a 4.5-point player for competition. Basketball Anderson is widely considered to be one of the best wheelchair basketball players in the world. He began playing the sport in 1990 and was first chosen for the Canadian national team in 1997. Colin Higgins (28 July 1941 – 5 August 1988) was an Australian-American screenwriter, actor, director, and producer. He was best known for writing the screenplay for the 1971 film ''Harold and Maude'', and for directing the films '' Foul Play'' (1978) and ''9 to 5'' (1980). Life and career Early life Higgins was born in Nouméa, New Caledonia, France, to an Australian mother, Joy (Kelly), and American father, John Edward Higgins, one of six sons.
