The women's singles wheelchair tennis tournament at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo is held at the Ariake Tennis Park in Kōtō, Tokyo from 28 August and 3 September 2021. The reigning champion was Jiske Griffioen, who was not defending her title, having retired in 2017. Ariake Coliseum
is an indoor arena, indoor sporting arena in Ariake Tennis Park located in Ariake, Tokyo, Ariake, Kōtō, Tokyo, Japan. It has a capacity of 10,000 and is one of the few professional tennis venues which has a retractable roof. When Ariake Coluseum first opened, it had no roof, but its sliding roof was installed in April 1991, making it the first stadium in Japan with a retractable roof, and the third overall after the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne and the SkyDome in Toronto. Momoko Ohtani
is a Japanese wheelchair tennis player. Ohtani has been active in international competitions since 2016. Medical history Ohtani was born healthy. She has been playing tennis since the third grade of primary school. After completing secondary school (high school), she contracted an illness for which she was repeatedly hospitalized. Due to the side effects of medication, she developed cramps in her right leg with paralysis in her right foot, as well as a weakened right hand. Career In September 2016, Ohtani took part in the Osaka Open, an ITF3 wheelchair tournament, where she immediately reached the final. Manami Tanaka (tennis)
is a Japanese wheelchair tennis player, she is world number 12 in singles and world number 8 in doubles. She competed at the Japan at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, 2020 Summer Paralympics. She is a 2023 Australian Open semifinalist in both singles and doubles, she also reached the semifinals at the French Open and US Open in the doubles with partner Dana Mathewson. She would later win a doubles gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics, 2024 Paris Paralympics with partner Yui Kamiji. Emmy Kaiser (born May 16, 1990) is an American wheelchair tennis player. Biography Kaiser was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. A graduate of St. Henry High School, she is a 2011 Parapan American Games gold medalist for doubles wheelchair tennis and silver medalist for singles. She resides at Fort Mitchell, Kentucky and is living with spina bifida. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana for a degree in exercise and sport psychology in which she got enrolled right after the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
