Westport, Nova Scotia
Westport, Nova Scotia is a village in Digby County, Nova Scotia and it is located on Brier Island in the Bay of Fundy. As of 2021, the population was 193. History The settlement began with the arrival of David Welch and his family in 1769, as well as the Morrells. This was followed by the arrival of several more United Empire Loyalist families in 1783. The village was Municipal corporation, incorporated in 1946. A ferry service connects the village with Freeport, Nova Scotia on Long Island. A second ferry runs from Digby Neck to Long Island. Joshua Slocum, the first person to sail solo around the world, grew up in Westport, where his mother was born. A monument in his memory was built on the southern end of the village. Mathematician Roland Richardson was the principal of Westport's high school from 1899 to 1902. Westport (formerly Beall's Landing) is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California, United States. It is located on California State Route 1, near the Pacific Ocean, north of Fort Bragg, and at an elevation of . The first post office at Westport opened in 1879. Originally called Beall's Landing in honor of Samuel Beall, its first white settler, the place was renamed in 1877 by James T. Rodgers, who built a timber loading facility for the name to contrast with his hometown of Eastport, Maine. As of July 2010, the population of Westport was 60. Westport is a neighborhood in south Baltimore, Maryland. Westport is a majority African-American neighborhood that has struggled with crime, housing abandonment, and unemployment in the past decade. Westport Community Church
The Westport Community Church, also known historically as Temperance Hall and the Music Hall, is a historic church on Main Road ( Maine State Route 144) in Westport, Maine. Probably built in the 1830s, and moved to its present location in 1864, it is a fine local example of Greek Revival architecture. It is now owned by a local non-profit organization, used for events and functions in the summertime. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Westport Island, formerly Westport, is a town in Lincoln County, Maine, United States. In the 19th century the island was known as Jeremysquam, a nickname islanders still use for it. The population was 719 at the 2020 census. Geography Westport Island is located approximately northeast of Portland. The island is separated from the mainland by two coastal salt-water rivers: the Sheepscot River and the Back River. The island is connected to the mainland at the northwest by one modern bridge, built in 1972 over a slim gap in the Back River called Cowsegan Narrows. Westport Bank And Trust Company
The Westport Bank and Trust Company is a historic commercial building at 87 Post Road East in Westport, Connecticut. It is a two-story Classical Revival brick building, designed by local architect Charles E. Cutler and built in 1924. The bank was founded in 1852 by Horace Staples, a prominent local businessman, and was a longtime fixture in the local economy. The building is notable for its architecture, and for a series of murals in its lobby, commissioned in the 1960s and executed by Robert L. Lambdin, an artist best known for his Depression-era work funded by the Works Progress Administration. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 6, 2006.
