He was professor of botany and director of the Botanical Garden at the University of Utrecht. His eldest son was the Dutch botanist Frits Warmolt Went, who in 1927 as a graduate student worked on plant hormones, specifically the role of auxin in phototropism. He became member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1898. Went died, aged 72, in Wassenaar. References

Paul Went
Paul Frank Went (12 October 1949 – 4 January 2017) was an English footballer who played professionally for five clubs over a fifteen-year period. He was one of that generation who bridged the gap between terminological eras, beginning his career as a centre-half and ending it as a central defender despite playing a similar role throughout. Career Born in Bromley-by-Bow on 12 October 1949 he played for both England schoolboys and the Under 18 youth side. After an apprenticeship he broke into the Orient first team in 1966, becoming the club's youngest ever player, and played 50 games for the club before being transferred to Charlton in June 1967. He spent five years at The Valley before moving to Fulham in the summer of 1972. After only 18 months he was off to Portsmouth, part of new chairman John Deacon's ambitious new rebuilding programme. Went (verb)
The verb ''go'' is an irregular verb in the English language (see English irregular verbs). It has a wide range of uses; its basic meaning is "to move from one place to another". Apart from the copular verb ''be'', the verb ''go'' is the only English verb to have a suppletive past tense, namely ''went''. Principal parts The principal parts of ''go'' are ''go, went, gone''. In other respects, the modern English verb conjugates regularly. The irregularity of the principal parts is due to their disparate origin in definitely two and possibly three distinct Indo-European roots. Unlike every other English verb except ''be'', the preterite (simple past tense) of ''go'' is not etymologically related to its infinitive. Instead, the preterite of ''go'', ''went'', descends from a variant of the preterite of ''wend'', the descendant of Old English ''wendan'' and Middle English ''wenden''. Old English ''wendan'' (modern ''wend'') and ''gān'' (mod. ''go'') shared semantic similarities. Th ...

Went Mountains Frog
''Papurana grisea'' is a species of true frog. It is known with certainty only from its type locality in the Went Mountains, in the Indonesian province of Papua, New Guinea. Similar frogs are widespread in New Guinea, usually above above sea level, as well as on the Seram Island, but their identity is uncertain; they possibly represent another, undescribed species. Common names Went Mountains frog and Montaen swamp frog have been coined for it. River Went
The River Went is a river in Yorkshire, England. It rises close to Featherstone and flows eastward, joining the River Don just to the north of Pincheon Green. The river is classified as a main river by the Environment Agency, and is therefore their responsibility. Drainage of the surrounding low level land is managed by the Danvm Drainage Commissioners, an internal drainage board. Most of the drainage ditches for which they are responsible empty into the Went by gravity, but they also manage six pumping stations in the catchment of the Went. These pump water from areas where mining subsidence from the extraction of coal has resulted in land too low to drain by gravity, and are funded by the Coal Authority. At its mouth, the river enters the River Don through a pair of pointing doors, which are designed to close to prevent high levels in the Don from passing up the Went and causing flooding. Historically, the river has provided the power for at least five water mills, which ...

Cholodny–Went Model
In botany, the Cholodny–Went model, proposed in 1927, is an early model describing tropism in emerging shoots of monocotyledons, including the tendencies for the shoot to grow towards the light ( phototropism) and the roots to grow downward (gravitropism). In both cases the directional growth is considered to be due to asymmetrical distribution of auxin, a plant growth hormone. Although the model has been criticized and continues to be refined, it has largely stood the test of time. Basic model The model was independently proposed by the Russian-born scientist Nikolai Cholodny of the University of Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1927 and by Frits Warmolt Went of the California Institute of Technology in 1928, both based on work they had done in 1926. The basic elements of the theory are that auxin is the sole hormone that controls growth in gravitropism and phototropism; the rate of growth depends on the concentration of auxin; and both gravity and unidirectional light affect the movemen ...

Kingsley Went
Kingsley Went (born 19 August 1981) is a Zimbabwean former cricketer. He played sixteen first-class matches between 1999 and 2005. Biography Born in Harare, Went has spent most of his life in Mutare, with a notable family lineage tracing back to Kingsley Fairbridge. He found his passion for cricket at Hillcrest Primary School, and his skill gradually grew, leading him to consider a professional career in the sport. His school cricket career was marked by impressive performances as an opening batter and wicket-keeper. His transition to focus on off-breaks was influenced by a conversation with Mike Whiley of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union. Despite this shift, he still played as a wicket-keeper occasionally. Went excelled in school cricket, with standout scores of 122 not out against a visiting school from Norwich, England, 103 against a Hillcrest Old Boys team, and 99 against Watershed. He served as the vice-captain for most of his teams and captained in his final year, 1999. Went ...
