Water Polo At The 2003 World Aquatics Championships – Women's Tournament
The 2003 Women's World Water Polo Championship was the sixth edition of the water polo at the World Aquatics Championships#Women's tournament, women's water polo tournament at the World Aquatics Championships, organised by the world governing body in aquatics, the FINA. The tournament was held from 13 to 25 July 2003, and was incorporated into the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Hungary, United States, Canada, Russia and Italy qualified for this event by finishing in the top five at the 2002 FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup, 2002 FINA World Cup in Perth, Australia. 2003 World Aquatics Championships
The 10th FINA World Aquatics Championships were held July 12–27, 2003 in Barcelona, Spain. The championships featured competition in all 5 of FINA's disciplines: Swimming, Diving, Synchronised swimming, Water Polo, and Open Water Swimming. Competition was held in the facilities all around the city: Palau Sant Jordi, Piscines Bernat Picornell, Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc, Club de Natació de Barcelona and Port Vell. Ellen Estes
Ellen Marie Estes (born October 13, 1978) is an American water polo player, who won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She also won a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Estes scored three goals during the bronze medal game against Australia. Estes played for Stanford University. She was a senior on the 2002 NCAA National Championship Team; was a two-time All-American; and broke a Stanford scoring record with 93 goals in her sophomore year. She graduated with an Engineering degree at Stanford, and interned for studied roller-coaster design as an intern with Disney. In 2003, Estes was named the USA Water Polo Female Athlete of the Year. From 2007–2009, Estes served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Harvard University Men's and Women's Water Polo Teams, while finishing her MBA at Harvard Business School. Carmela Allucci (born 22 January 1970) is a female water polo midfielder from Italy, who won the gold medal with the Women's National Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Allucci was given the honour to carry the national flag of Italy at the closing ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics, becoming the first female water polo player to be a flag bearer at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics. Guy Baker
Guy Baker was the head coach for the United States women's national water polo team competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic games. He is now the Director Of Olympic Development of USA Water Polo. Baker had guided the team to a silver medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics, a bronze medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics, and a silver medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics (only players receive a medal at the Olympics), becoming one of the most successful water polo coaches in Olympic history. In 2018, he was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame. Thalia Janina Ormbsy (Munro) (born March 8, 1982) is an American water polo player for the UCLA Bruins and the US National Team, who won the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Amber Stachowski
Amber Val Stachowski (born March 14, 1983) is an American water polo player for the UCLA Bruins and the U.S. National Team, who won the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Her position is center defender. High school and college At Capistrano Valley High School, Stachowski was a three-time First-Team All-American (1999–2001) and 2001 California Interscholastic Federation Player of the Year. In club play she was a member of the 2001 Golden West team that won the Winter Junior Nationals, and was named MVP of the tournament. Robin Beauregard
Robin Mary Beauregard (born February 23, 1979) is an American water polo player, who won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She also won a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Beauregard plays the position of center defender. In addition to playing for the national team, Beauregard also played for UCLA. She was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2003 NCAA Championships, where UCLA beat Stanford University by a score of 4–3. She was named 1st Team NCAA All-American three times while at UCLA. Beauregard attended Marina High School, which did not have a female water polo team until her junior year, and she played on its team of mostly male players. Heather Moody
Heather Moody (born August 21, 1973) is an American water polo player, who won a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She was team captain of the US Women's National Team that captured the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and the only member of the team not from California. Her position is center forward. Life Moody went to college at San Diego State University where she was a member of the Water Polo team. In 1999 and 2001, Heather was United States Water Polo Player of the Year. In June 2005, Bill Barnett resigned as coach of the U.S. women's water polo team because he couldn't come to terms on a contract.
