Wang Jun (Jin Dynasty)
Wang Jun (206 – 28 January 286), courtesy name Shizhi, was a Chinese military general and politician who lived during the late Three Kingdoms period and early Western Jin dynasty of China. Life Wang Jun was from Hu County (湖縣), Hongnong Commandery (弘農郡), which is located west of present-day Lingbao, Henan. He was born in a family of government officials. He was known for his good looks, and for being well-read and ambitious. He started his career as an Assistant Officer (從事) in the office of Hedong Commandery (河東郡; around present-day Xia County, Shanxi). Yang Ji (羊暨), a nephew of the Jin dynasty general Yang Hu, once told his uncle to be wary of Wang Jun because he was extravagant and unbridled in his ways. Wang Jun (252 – 4 April 314), courtesy name Pengzu, was a military general and warlord who lived during the Western Jin dynasty of China. By the time of Sima Lun's usurpation of the Jin throne he was established as a military commander in You Province. Although he became a target of Sima Ying as the War of the Eight Princes unfolded, he survived the chaos, ultimately supporting Sima Yue's faction. At the time of the Disaster of Yongjia which saw the collapse of Jin control in northern China, he was one of Jin's few remaining provincial powers in the north. However among claims of imperial ambitions and corruption, he clashed not only with northern tribal powers but also his Jin dynasty rival Liu Kun the Inspector of Bingzhou, before his final defeat and death at the hands of Shi Le, who had previously won Wang Jun's trust. Wang Jun (王晙) (died 732), formally Duke Zhonglie of Zhongshan (中山忠烈公), was a Chinese military general and politician during the Tang dynasty and Wu Zetian's Zhou dynasty, largely known for his service as a general during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong, when he also briefly served as chancellor. Wang Jun (; born March 26, 1952) is a Chinese politician and former senior regional official. He was the Director of the State Administration of Work Safety between March and September 2008. He was appointed acting Governor of Shanxi in north China in September 2008 after a botched government response to a mudslide in the province led to the resignation of then Governor Meng Xuenong. He served as Shanxi Governor until December 2012, when he was transferred to Inner Mongolia to serve as party secretary there. He left active politics in August 2016. Wang Jun (; born June 4, 1976) is a Chinese scientist, founder and CEO of iCarbonX, and former CEO of the Beijing Genomics Institute (now known as BGI). While studying as a PhD student at Peking University, in 1999 Wang founded the bioinformatics group at BGI, which lead China's contribution to sequencing 1% of the Human Genome Project. His team was subsequently involved in efforts to genetically sequence the first Asian person, the rice plant, SARS, the giant panda, silkworms, pigs, chickens, goats, and the human gut microbiome, amongst other organisms. He was an Ole Romer professor at the University of Copenhagen and co-authored more than 100 papers.
