Victoria Road, Adelaide
Victoria Road (and its northern extremity Oliver Rogers Road) is a major road in Adelaide, South Australia, connecting Port Adelaide to Outer Harbor on the LeFevre Peninsula. It is designated part of route A16. Route Oliver Rogers Road starts at the roundabout intersection with Lady Ruthven Drive. It heads northeast along the Port Adelaide Passenger Terminal, and Outer Harbor railway station, before curving east to intersect with Bourke-Jones Road at Seahven marina, home of the Royal South Australia Yacht Squadron. It changes name to Victoria Road and curves to run south along the eastern edge of the LeFevre peninsula through Osborne, Largs Bay and Largs North, with residential settlement along its western side and mainly heavy industry along its eastern side. Victoria Road is a major road in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, connecting Parramatta with the western end of Anzac Bridge and is currently one of the longest roads in Sydney. The road passes over two major bridges: the Iron Cove Bridge over Iron Cove, and the Gladesville Bridge over the Parramatta River. Route Victoria Road begins at the intersection with O'Connell Street in Paramatta and heads east, passing through the Sydney suburbs of Rydalmere, Ermington, West Ryde, Ryde, Gladesville, Drummoyne and Rozelle. Victoria Road is an unincorporated community in the Canadian province of Ontario, located within the single-tier municipality of Kawartha Lakes. The village was built around a station on the Toronto and Nipissing Railway, which was constructed in 1872 where the line crossed Victoria Colonization Road (today Kawartha Lakes Road 35), which was built between 1859 and 1861, named after the county that was named after Queen Victoria, and passes through the village. For a time, the village was known as "The City of Peace" and "The Road." The station—the second last on the line—served the community and area until the last train passed through in 1965, after which the tracks were lifted. Victoria Road Prison is a former prison that was located on Victoria Road in Douglas, capital of the Isle of Man. Victoria Road Prison was the first purpose-built prison to be constructed on the Isle of Man, and held prisoners from April 1891 to August 2008. History From 1780 prisoners from the Isle of Man (including debtors) mainly served their sentence at Castle Rushen, but within a century problems were apparent with this arrangement. Prisoners would grow unruly, as they could not be separated, and the conditions in which they were kept were unfit. When the Chairman of the Commissioners for Prisons in England and Wales inspected the premises for the first time in 1885, he indicated a need for a prison to house 30 prisoners.
