Västra Götaland County North (Riksdag Constituency)
Västra Götaland County North () is one of the 29 multi-member constituency, constituencies of the Riksdag, the national legislature of Sweden. The constituency was established as Älvsborg County North in 1970 when the Riksdag was changed from a bicameral legislature to a unicameral legislature. It was renamed Västra Götaland County North in 1998 when the Counties of Sweden, counties of Älvsborg County, Älvsborg, Gothenburg and Bohus County, Gothenburg and Bohus and Skaraborg County, Skaraborg were merged to create Västra Götaland County, Västra Götaland. The Riksdag ( , ; also or , ) is the parliament and the parliamentary sovereignty, supreme decision-making body of the Kingdom of Sweden. Since 1971, the Riksdag has been a unicameral parliament with 349 members (), elected proportional representation, proportionally and serving, since 1994, fixed four-year terms. Västra Götaland County () is a county or '' län'' on the western coast of Sweden. The county is the second most populous of Sweden's counties and it comprises 49 municipalities (''kommuner''). Its population of 1,616,000 amounts to 17% of Sweden's population. The formal capital and seat of the governor of Västra Götaland County is Gothenburg. The political capital and seat of the Västra Götaland Regional Council is Vänersborg. The county was established on 1 January 1998, when Älvsborg County, Gothenburg and Bohus County and Skaraborg County were merged. Markus Wiechel (born 15 April 1988) is a Swedish politician of the Sweden Democrats. He has been a Member of Parliament (MP) of Sweden following the resignation of Lars Isovaara on 29 November 2012. He's currently serving as member for the Committee on Foreign Affairs as well as Deputy for the Committee on European Union Affairs. Wiechel is currently part of three international parliamentary delegations: NATO-PA as a deputy member, the OSCE-PA and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
