Volkmarsen–Vellmar-Obervellmar Railway
The Volkmarsen–Vellmar-Obervellmar railway runs from Volkmarsen via Wolfhagen and Zierenberg to Vellmar-Obervellmar, where it meets the Kassel–Warburg railway. It begins in Volkmarsen, where it branches off the Warburg–Sarnau railway. The whole line and almost all the railway buildings next to the line are under heritage protection. History After the Warburg–Volkmarsen section was closed in 1967 and the Korbach–Volkmarsen section were closed 1987, local rail passenger transport ended in Volkmarsen for around ten years. After the Warburg–Volkmarsen section was closed, the track to Obervellmar was integrated into the continuous main line through Volkmarsen station. Due to the redesign of the station, the change of line can only be recognised by the change in the route kilometre markings. Wolfhagen
Wolfhagen () is a town in the district of Kassel, in Hesse, Germany. It is located 12 km southeast of Bad Arolsen, and 23 km west of Kassel on the German Timber-Frame Road. The DB Class 628 is a twin-car, diesel multiple unit operated by the Deutsche Bahn for local passenger rail services. Design ''(The following description is primarily related to the Class 628.4, and is largely valid for the other variants as well)'' Each coach rests on two twin-axle bogies. Only the bogie at the close-coupled end of the coach is driven. Power transmission from the motor is achieved using a ''Voith'' hydrodynamic transmission system with a converter (''Wandler'') and a T 311r coupling. The Stadler GTW is an articulated railcar for local transport made by Stadler Rail of Switzerland. GTW stands for Gelenktriebwagen (articulated railcar). History The Biel–Täuffelen–Ins-Bahn near Bern, Switzerland was looking for a lighter train model to replace its aging fleet, so that a low floor system does not require heavy installations on the roof. Based on that requirement Stadler came up with a concept of placing most of the equipment in a central unit between the seating cars. While the BTI-Bahn tracks are meter gauge, Stadler presented the first prototype in 1995 set on standard gauge rails, and the Mittelthurgau-Bahn tested three prototypes on its standard gauge network during 1996. The Kassel RegioTram is a tram-train light rail system in Kassel, Hesse, Germany. Kassel's tram-train system follows the Karlsruhe model, and has been in full operation since 2007. With special RegioTram tramcars, continuous trips between the Deutsche Bahn heavy rail network and Kassel's city tram network are easily possible, thus avoiding transfers requiring long walking distances between trains of the regional rail system and trams of the Kassel city system.
