Viña Del Mar Airport
Concón Airport is an airport serving Greater Valparaíso, Chile. The airport is in the hills east of the coastal commune of Concón. It mainly serves as a military air base for the Chilean Navy aviation ("Base Aeronaval y Aeropuerto Concón"), but also has a small civilian passenger terminal; this is however only rarely used. Greater Valparaíso (''Gran Valparaíso'') is the third largest metropolitan area in Chile, after the Greater Concepción and Greater Santiago. Concón is a Chilean city and commune in Valparaíso Province, Valparaíso Region. It is a major tourist center known for its beaches, ''balnearios'' (beachside resorts) and night life. Geography The commune of Concón spans an area of . It is located on the Pacific coast north of Reñaca, Viña del Mar and south of Quintero. The Aconcagua river ends at the north of the town. Its three main beaches are Playa Negra, Amarilla and Boca. 50 hectares of dunes stretch along and above the coast, though only about 20 are protected, the rest being increasingly encroached by highrise apartment buildings. Demographics According to data from the 2017 Census of Population and Housing, the commune of Concón had 42,152 inhabitants; of these, 39,409 (93.5%) lived in urban areas and 2,743 (6.5%) in rural areas. Dornier 228
The Dornier 228 is a twin-turboprop STOL utility aircraft, designed and first manufactured by Dornier GmbH (later DASA Dornier, Fairchild-Dornier) from 1981 until 1998. 245 were built in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. In 1983, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) bought a production licence and manufactured another 125 aircraft in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. In July 2017, 63 aircraft were still in airline service. In 2009, RUAG started building a Dornier 228 New Generation in Germany. The fuselage, wings and tail unit are manufactured by HAL in Kanpur, India, and transported to Oberpfaffenhofen, where RUAG Aviation carries out aircraft final assembly. The Dornier 228NG uses the same airframe with improved technologies and performances, such as a new five-blade propeller, glass cockpit and longer range.
